What if I need to file bankruptcy but can see that it is a complicated process and do not have money for an attorney?

Asked by a user in San Diego, CA - about 3 years ago.

Hiring an attorney might not be as expensive as you think. Your case sounds like it will qualify as a Chapter 7 or liquidation bankruptcy. If you earned less than $24,591 in the last six months you satisfy the means test. Call your local attorneys and get price quotes. You may be able to get an attorney to handle this case for as little as $1000. Contact the San Fernando Valley Bar Association. It can direct you to a qualified attorney in your area. For $30 you will get a thirty minute consultation with an attorney. A link to their website is below. https://www.sfvba.org/intus/referral/referral.asp

When filing chap 7 credit cards go on what schedules ?

Asked by a user in Redwood City, CA - about 3 years ago.

Credit cards go on Schedule F. Schedule E is for unsecured PRIORITY claims, such as domestic support, taxes, etc. Schedule F is for unsecured NONPRIORITY which means all creditors not listed on Schedules D or E.

If I can not afford to file bankrupt and I have been out of work almost a year how do I get my creditors to stop calling me and

Asked by a user in Cumming, GA - almost 3 years ago.

Call your local Bar Association. The Forsyth County Bar Association does not appear to have a referral panel, but they should be able to guide you to low fee or no fee attorneys that can help you. http://www.forsythbar.org/contact.htm Another option is to file bankruptcy without an attorney. Nolo Press has a good book that can guide you through the process.

I wana file bankruptcy, but i dont think i make enough to have money to pay the bankruptcy payment. what do i do?

Asked by a user in Gardendale, AL - almost 3 years ago.

You have to make below a certain amount to be eligible for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. The courts determine that by looking at your last six months of income and since you only recently starting working that should be fairly low. Your assets over a certain threshold will be liquidated in Chapter 7 bankruptcy, but if you have nothing then you have nothing to...
