Let me make this as simple as possible for anyone considering retaining Richard Sudar as their attorney: read every 1-star review on the net carefully, because their bad experiences with him are also bound to happen to you! Ignore the 5-star review.
If you were smart enough to Google this so-called lawyer before paying him money to represent you, then you should also be smart enough to find yourself another lawyer. ANY other lawyer.
There is no reason why you should risk your case by taking your chances with this scumbag, no matter what he promises during his sweet-talk "consultation" call. It is not a wise gamble, trust me.
And I'm not saying this because he lost my case; he didn't lose my case - he never had a chance to because I fired him after he kept taking more and more money from me over a period of many months yet never delivering.
That is Richard Sudar's strategy: to avoid litigation, to avoid dismissals, and just keep your case in a permanent limbo of billable appearances.
Beware - be very aware!
I met Mr. Sudar a decade ago. I had a drunken night and made a terrible mistake. Every other lawyer I contacted had some "work around" to screw with the judiciary, get me home confinement, etc. Every single lawyer gave me the "We'll get you off," speech. After meeting with a half dozen lawyers, I walked into Richards office. His approach to my case was completely different and involved something the other lawyers hadn't even discussed with me. Honesty. I was facing a potential felony situation that could have sent me to prison. Richard took my calls, negotiated on my behalf and saved my bacon. There hasn't been a year gone by since that I haven't thanked God I met him. Everyone is keen to write a bad review of someone or something that has pissed them off, but few people write about their good experiences. I'm sure most would rather not write about how they almost landed in prison or even think about it. I can assure you, Richard is trustworthy, honest and above all, a good lawyer.
I met Richard Sudar through a customer that would come into work very frequently. I ended up needing an attorney and the customer that would visit my job recommended him and vouched for him, that I coulden be in better hands then with him. I decided to hire him and boy! Was that the BIGGEST MISTAKE I EVER DID IN MY LIFE!!. This attorney is clumsy, is not ready, will give you no update on your case and make you hear what you want to hear. He's a spineless attorney that will not hesitate to take your MONEY!!! And that's all he cares about. He's the most unprepared person and attorney I have EVER MET! He took my money with no remorse of what i was going through, almost ruined my life. I had to fire!!! Him and lose $1,500.00 dollars that he retain within 2 weeks that he didn't even do anything I practically just said here is this money take it because I don't need it. I asked for a refund and he said that the work he spent on my case was more then what I had given him! This man did NOT DO ONE SINGLE THING IN MY CASE. You might as well hire a public defender if your going to hire him. He will be the quite actor, be all nice tell you all the good things you want to hear, but trust me... He will ruin you and take your last dime without thinking twice about it. Make sure you do a very intense background check on this thief cause all you will find is negative things and on how he's ruined innocent peoples lives. He's cold blooded man and will do nothing and do everything to take your money. I sure learned a very good lesson but what goes around comes around.
I thought I was the only person who had had a horrible experience with this attorney. Several years ago, Mr. Sudar represented me when I had been charged with domestic assault. Because his loyalties are to the prosecutor and because he is only interested in pleading all of his clients out so that he won't have to litigate, Mr. Sudar will try to convince you that you're guilty and that the best thing for you to do is to accept a plea agreement. He would tell me not to bother him when I would try calling. He once accused me of having violated a court order, based on a lie that the accuser had told the prosecutor. He tried to trap me into telling him things so that he could twist them at a later date to convince me that I was guilty and that I should accept a no-contest. Despite the overwhelming evidence that the accuser was a liar, Mr. Sudar ignored every piece of evidence that could have been helpful to my case. I can't believe this guy is still practicing law. He probably hasn't litigated a case since he was an assistant D.A. This guy needs to be put out of business. Because the California Bar Association protects their own, people like myself who've had negative experiences with attorneys need to use sites like AVVO to expose these dangerous people. When I provided him with evidence that the prosecutor had lied to him he did nothing about it. Because I had to plead to a misdemeanor assault I've been unemployed for over four years. I used to be a professional person with a great job and strong prospects. If you want your life ruined go with Mr. Sudar.
I hired the Law Offices of Richard Sudar after I was wrongfully stopped and detained by the police. At first I was skeptical because of a couple of things that I had read so I went to see him in court in action. Everyone seemed to know and like Mr. Sudar. When I went to his office again to retain him, he made me feel a lot better about my case and him. And I'm so glad that I trusted my instincts and hired Mr. Sudar. My case was dismissed. Do not believe everything you read. That's what he told me. If you are in trouble, do not hesitate to hire Mr. Sudar. You will be glad you did. Months after my case ended, I still cannot thank him enough.
There is nothing positive I can say about this guy. He is just a really bad lawyer. He never kept me informed. Introduced bad evidence during pretrial that was not needed at that point. And he pissed off the Judge. He was never on time. And he had just a really smug attitude. Which lawyer doesn't? Right. All this for $5000. I had to switch to a new lawyer in the middle of the case. A whole new fee of course.I ended up doing jail time because of his mistakes my new lawyer couldn't fix. I really should sue this guy for malpractice. PLEASE AVOID THIS GUY. There are so many other good lawyers in town. And he is surely not one of them. A true hack.
When I had my run in with the law, I sought Mr. Sudar to help me with my case. Him and his secretary are incredibly nice to you up to the point you sign over a check, which is some inadvertent cue for hell to ensue.
My first hearing: Mr. Sudar was TWO hours late from the time he had promised. He came in extremely rushed, sweaty, and almost incoherent in his speech. Needless to say, he was obviously unprepared for my case, and had to even ask me WHAT my offense was. Not knowing who I was or what he was doing, he POSTPONED the case for another month (which should've given him enough time to read my case).
Second hearing: Late by one hour, I get my sentence (misdemeanor as long as requirements are done).
Third hearing: Mr. Sudar MISINFORMS ME about the procedures that I had to go through to finish my requirements and in turn WORSENS my sentence. I was almost given the felony if I, MYSELF, had not PLEADED with the judge.
Do yourself a service and NEVER enlist the help of this brute.
I had a legal problem and needed help. Richard Sudar is one of the first names that come up on google. He has a very personal and professional website. I met him for a counsutation and he seemed like a very good lawyer. I paid him right after the meeting and thought this man was a good choice. Boy was I wrong. After I paid him. He never contacted me again about my case. I would have to chase him to finally talk with him. When I did talk with him. He would always give excuses about the progress of my case. There was no progress because he did not even look at my case. He never had me come in to discuss stategies on what i wanted to do with my case. He left me feeling alone. Richard Sudar has no business being a lawyer. Because he is not capable of handling an important job like peoples lives. He would make a better used cars salesman. If you are going to choose Richard to handle you case. You would have a better chance representing yourself in court. He will not be there for you. He will show up late. He will not return e-mails or calls. You will be alone.
