    Discussions of settlement negotiations in court are generally forbidden so I don't think the piece of paper will do you much good. What you need is your lease and your payment history.

    We are all at will employees, meaning we can be fired without explanation unless (a) we are part of a protected class or (b) we are employed through a contract with special rights attached to employment status. Your brother may want to talk to an employment attorney about his situation, but I am not optimistic.
