I was a former prosecutor handling traffic cases in Texas. Unless the laws have changed recently, I am not aware of any prohibitions from taking defensive driving for school zone violations. However, the requirements, as with all speeding offenses , are that you had to be exceeding the speed limit by 24 miles or less. Since school zones are typically in the 10 to 15 mile per hour limit, it can be very easy to go faster by 25 or more miles.
