The military plan itself determines whether you can receive anything immediately. You will need to look at this closely. However, you may want to speak to an attorney about other options available to give you some support while you get back on your feet. There may be other ways to help you.

A lot of what happens depends on the age of the children. The Judge will usually ask the children how things are going with each parent. The Judge will not allow the children to select the parent they live with but will only try to gather information as to the reasons behind any choice they do make. The Judge will specifically be looking for the best interests of the children and not just their wishes.

You may want to contact the Harris County Domestic Relations Office. They can be faster than the Attorney General and I believe fees are on a sliding scale.

Normally, notice is required for all court settings. She should not be able to proceed without your signature if she cannot show that you had notice. However, you should remain in close contact with the Court to ensure that nothing is entered without your knowledge or consent.
A divorce takes a minimum of 60 days and there is no way to shorten that time period. The time beings to run from the date you file the petition for divorce and the first date you can finalize is the 61st day after that.
