The purpose of this answer is to serve as a public education response so that the general public will be aware of the legal rights each person in the State of Texas has. I do not know any of the persons involved nor have I formed an attorney client relationship with anyone involved with this question. That being said, as a general principal for public education, you should contact the Texas Board of Chiropractic Examiners to report what has happened and to investigate if anyone else has...

Your question is not clear as to what was owed and what was paid. Prior to your dental operation, you paid a "percentage" and some bill. Then the operation was done and a year later, you were told that you owed more money. I am not sure if I understand the fact situation but if what I wrote is correct then there are some Points of Information you should know. There is public information about any attorney licensed to practice law in the State of Texas on the State Bar of Texas website. If you go to www.texasbar.com and look for the window on the left side that states: "Find a Lawyer", you will be able to input the lawyer's name and go to his listing. Under his name will be information on grievances and if there has been a public reprimand entered against him, it should appear on this site. Additionally, I would suggest talking to an attorney because...

The State Bar of Texas has an organization entitled the Client Attorney Assistance Program (CAAP) that you can contact and ask for help. It can be reached at 1-800-204-222. ext. 1780 and someone with the CAAP office will discuss with you the options you may have. Your raising of the "Deadlines" indicates that there may be a statute of limitations problem with both what the State Bar of Texas Office of Chief Disciplinary Counsel could do or what a private attorney could do.

With any attorney, you have three choices: (1) if theft, file charges with the District Attorney of Harris County, Texas; (2) if theft, file a grievance with the Office of Chief Disciplinary Counsel for the State Bar of Texas; and (3). the taking of client funds gives rise to a civil cause of action. Please remember that falsely accusing an attorney of theft is libel per se and you may be sued for making a false statement.
