Will my minor childs dog injury settlement result in a trust being set up that they can only access when they turn 18?

Asked by a user in Dallas, TX - 24 days ago.

You should be reimbursed your out of pocket medical bills. The remainder of the funds, however, belong to your child. The court will set them aside until your child reaches the legal age of 18. Since the settlement is small, the likely investment option is the court registry due to the expense of creating a separate trust.
