Evan Jane Ellman

    Evan Ellman has specialized in the intersection of law and medicine for the last 35 years. She has worked  in the field from a variety of angles, both on the defense and plaintiff sides, as in-house and as outside counsels. She worked as a malpractice and pharmaceutical product liability defense lawyer at the firms of Winston & Strawn and Schopf & Weiss, defending hospitals, doctors, nurses and pharmaceutical companies in med-mal and product liability litigation. Her clients included the Cook County Hospitals, Occidental Petroleum Company, Walgreens, and SmithKline Beckman, Corp. She also was active in creating an in-house legal department for handling medical-legal issues at Lutheran General Hospital.  As their in-house counsel in charge of medical-legal affairs, she paved the way for other hospitals to set-up similar in-house counsel staffs, thereby saving the hospitals  expenses by handling a lot of the defense work in-house. 

    Evan Ellman has also worked at the firm of Corboy and Demetrio, handling exclusively medical malpractice cases at that plaintiff firm.   

    More recently, Ms. Ellman became a Certified Mediator and has mediated solutions to a variety of disputes which arise in healthcare venues, from contract disputes, to liability disputes, to employee-employer disputes, to insurance disputes.  She is enthusiastic about mediation as an alternative form of dispute resolution, because it is faster, cheaper for the parties, less stressful, and, because the parties actively participate in crafting the solutions, which can lead to fairer, more customized and mutually-acceptable outcomes.

    Evan Ellman is bilingual and conducts mediations in English and Spanish.
