My friend was recently arrested in CA and they charged him with 44G, what does that mean exactly?

Was your friend arrested for a drug offense? If so, 44G may mean 44 grams, which would be referring to the weight of the substance. However, 44 grams is a lot of weight. It would be a large amount to find on a dealer and an amount unlikely to be found on a user.
