The Social Security web site has this chart: http://www.socialsecurity.gov/pubs/10077.html Your question leaves out some important details such as your age, and whether you qualified by your own earnings for Social Security, and whether you are disabled. Generally, you would not be able to draw a retirement benefit before you reach age 62. You could only draw a disability benefit based on his earnings if you were older than age 50 and he were deceased. I do not think you qualify for...

Yes. There is a family maximum death or survivor benefit, another person taking benefits makes the pieces of the pie for everyone else smaller.
