John A. Anderson

John Anderson is a graduate of the University of Michigan and received his law degree from Michigan State University College of Law. 

As a partner in the Business Practice and Health Care groups at Giarmarco, Mullins & Horton, P.C., Mr. Anderson has wide-ranging experience as a business lawyer representing middle-market clients, entrepreneurs and banking clients, primarily handling loan work-out matters. Mr. Anderson has considerable experience working with banks in relation to complex special asset issues, forbearance agreements, receiverships, foreclosures and liquidations, as well as civil and bankruptcy litigation relation to workout matters.

 Aside from business law, another major focus of his practice is in health care law, primarily on the provider side. Mr. Anderson represents health care providers ranging from large single and multi-specialty groups to small groups and individual physicians. He also represents Accountable Care Organizations, diagnostic providers, physical therapy providers, health home agencies and more. Mr. Anderson was formerly General Counsel and Chief Operating Officer for a large medical billing company, in that capacity, he worked closely with physicians, group practices and other providers on business matters as well as billing and reimbursement issues.

His practice areas include all manner of business transactional and litigation matters, with an emphasis on banking and healthcare law, and the full spectrum of health care provider issues including compliance matters, fraud and abuse, third-party audits, billing and reimbursement, entity formation, contract negotiations, physician self-referral/Stark, Anti-kickback, licensing and litigation.

Mr. Anderson is Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Genesys Health System (GHS), in Grand Blanc, Michigan, which is part of the Ascension Health National Network, the largest non-profit health system in the country with over $19 billion in annual revenues. He currently chairs the hospital’s Executive Committee and previously chaired the hospital’s Quality and Safety Committee. Additionally, he sits on the Board of the Genesys Physician Hospital Organization, that has operated a Pioneer Accountable Care Organization in Grand Blanc, Michigan from the inception of the Pioneer ACO Program in January of 2012. Mr. Anderson has been instrumental, from the hospital side, in the ramp-up and continuing development of the Genesys Pioneer ACO.

Mr. Anderson is also an adjunct professor of Management for Walsh College’s MBA Program in Troy, Michigan. He has been recognized as a Top Lawyer in Healthcare Law by dbusiness Magazine, as a Best Lawyer in America, a Michigan Super Lawyer in Healthcare Law, a Leading Lawyer and has an “AV” Peer Review Rating from Martindale-Hubbell, the highest ranking by peers for general ethical standards and legal ability.
