Giving someone guardianship over a minor child is the same as custody. Unfortuantely, many people are not aware of the affect of guardianships on their custodial rights. You indicate that you have her temporary guardianship. If so, a temporary guardianship in Indiana is only effective for 60 days unless converted to a permanent guardianship. I strongly recommend that you consult with an attorney who handles such legal matters.

The guardianship will remain in place until either the child turns 18 or the court terminates the guardianship. The monther can file with the Court to ask that the guardianship be terminated. It is entirely within the court's discretion as to whether the guardianship is terminated. Primarily, the court will look at what is in the child's best interests.
