    Unfortunately no. You're insurance must be in place at the time of loss to be effective.

    If you spread information you reasonably believed to be true it's not either. You must knowingly spread false information for this to be actionable.

    I'm certain your Lease protects everybody except you in this situation but you should file a complaint with the local authorities and call your insurance company ASAP.

    Consult with an attorney ASAP to investigate the incident and protect your rights. It certainly appears that you definitely have a case and regardless of what the adverse driver says you should have an attorney investigate and advise you.

    Unfortunately, people are less than honest when they know that they are liable for an accident. Furthermore you cannot enter into an agreement not to pursue this claim absent a valid Release.
