    Hired Attorney

Not only was I quoted a specific range of hours that maxed out for Mr. Robert Bogen’s total services, I was billed almost double what should have been paid for the services rendered and that was well before the case was to be completed. To make matters worse, I was blamed by Mr. Bogen for his losing and his being outclassed by opposing counsel at our first and only hearing and called sour grapes when I received his invoice. To make matters even worse, if I can, I was told he was going to sue me for his fees. I feel paying him the inflated fee and informing the general public about this experience is far more valuable for people looking to hire Robert Bogen. Beware of this attorney, he is the reason attorneys get such a bad name.

Robert Lawrence Bogen’s response: “While we strive to provide our clients at the beginning of our professional relationship with an honest appraisal of their case and an honest estimate of the hours, fees, and costs that might be involved, such an appraisal and estimate is necessarily dependent upon the information available at the time of the initial consultation. An estimate of hours, fees, and costs is not a "cap" or a "maximum," and this is carefully explained to all of our clients. No attorney has a crystal ball as to how a case will progress. In matters of litigation, especially, unanticipated events and circumstances can frequently occur. We can control only our side of the litigation, not our adversary's side. Effort, fees, and costs that need to be expended on a case will vary widely depending on, for example, previously unknown facts and issues that are raised by the other side, how reasonable or aggressive the parties are with their respective positions, or whether the matter can settle early or will need to go to a full trial. All of our clients are fully informed of these shifting parameters at the beginning, as well as throughout the case. No case is a sure-fire winner; there are always flaws in both parties' cases. Otherwise there would be no need to litigate in the first place. No attorney wins all their cases, and the ones who say they do are fooling both themselves and their clients. Unfortunately, sometimes the losing party in an emotional and hard-fought litigation battle is unable or unwilling to be consoled, regardless of the strength of their attorney's presentation. It is understandably a frustrating and difficult situation, and can give rise to a reluctance in honoring their attorney's fee obligations. In some circumstances, it is fair and right for an attorney to compromise the final billing at the client's request, even though the fees are based on a reasonable hourly rate, for a reasonable number of hours, honestly expended in good faith on the client's behalf, and for which the client accepted and was happy with the professionalism and legal services provided up until the verdict. That is what occurred in this case, but it apparently has not relieved the bitter taste left in the client's mouth from this litigation experience.”

I found Mr. Bogan from Avvo after he answered one of my questions pertaining to a paternity matter. Hiring a family lawyer isn't an easy task, but I almost immediately trusted him. He is very giving of his time as well as, sensitive to my needs. Its almost like having a therapist and an attorney in one. I find Mr. Bogan to be caring, diligent and committed to getting me what I need. I feel confident that he is handling my matter in the best way and have faith in his judgment, opinion and direction with my case. He always follows through on what he says he is going to do, which makes this process a whole lot easier. His communication style is direct and prompt. He does not make promises he can not keep. I would honestly recommend him to anyone.

  • Mr. Bogen is a knowlegeable and caring lawyer who got good results for me.

I hired Mr. Bogen on the recommendation of a family member to help me settle things with my ex boyfriend. It was a very stressful time for me and he was very caring. He spent all the time he needed with me gathering information and then he began working on my case right away. He was respectful and courteous and always phoned or e-mailed me, many times after normal work hours, to explain what he was doing and why. He was detail oriented and it was clear to me that he knew what he was doing. I felt very comfortable with him. In the end, he was able to work things out and I was very happy with the results. He also followed through after the agreement to make sure my ex boyfriend did what he was supposed to do. I was very pleased with his services and I would call him again if I ever needed a lawyer. I would recommend him highly to anyone who needs legal help.

  • The worst I have worked with.

I encountered a problem with him when I asked him to hold off on something as I was considering a different direction, yet he went ahead and did what he had suggested anyway. When I chose that alternate path, he then charged me for all the work he had done despite the conversation having told him to hold off. He was also far less educated on the topics of my case family law case than he presented himself to be when I signed on with him. He quoted costs for tasks but then the actual bill overshot by thousands repeatedly. He bullied me when I questioned his billing and motives by threatening to take me to court and charge me with his court fees in accordance to our signing agreement. His billing was reviewed by opposing councel and other lawyers, ALL of which have found it to be extremely excessive. His reviews show that others must have better luck, but for me - asking Robert Bogen to represent me with my family situation was the most unproductive, costly decision I have ever made.

Robert Lawrence Bogen’s response: “No action of significance has ever been undertaken by this law firm on behalf of its clients unless first discussed with and approved by the client. This law firm takes great pride in listening to its clients and determining their issues of concern. We educate our clients on the legal principles relevant to their case. We communicate frequently with our clients what they can expect based on the facts and circumstances of their case. We discuss with our clients the process involved, and how we can assist them in efficiently and economically achieving their objectives. But in order to maximize the opportunity to achieve desired objectives in an efficient and cost-effective manner, the client should heed the attorney’s advice and counsel. The client should understand that the attorney can advocate only legitimate objectives of the client, and that the attorney cannot advocate positions which are unprofessional, contrary to the facts or law, or contrary to the Rules of Professional Conduct prescribed by the Florida Supreme Court. Nonetheless, some clients persist in unrealistic expectations, and demand unreasonable, inappropriate, or even unethical actions that cannot be complied with by the attorney. Some clients change the direction in which they want to go after substantial time and effort has been devoted by the attorney to the original agreed upon course. These clients may fault their attorney when their objectives are not met, or when their costs turn out to be higher than anticipated, even though the client bears substantial responsibility for this result. No attorney can prevail on every issue for every client on every occasion. But this law firm takes great pains and is successful in developing a good rapport with its clients and being responsive to their needs, learning all the relevant facts of its clients' cases, treating its clients fairly, and appropriately and ethically providing counsel to its clients in an efficient and economical way. This law firm is proud to have been recently bestowed the inaugural Client Distinction Award, resulting from clients who took the time to express their confidence in the firm in the areas of communications ability, responsiveness, quality of service, and value for the money. Less than 4% of the 900,000+ attorneys listed on and have been accorded this Martindale-Hubbell honor of distinction.”
