It is unlikely that you have a legal claim. The Federal HIPAA law, which protects the privacy of your medical information, does not allow individuals to sue for violations. Only the Office of Civil Rights enforces HIPAA for the time being. This may change in the future when providers go to electronic records. I agree with the first answer, but wanted to expand it a bit. When lending money, to avoid future misunderstandings and disputes, it is best to have the borrower execute a Promissory Note. That will spell out the terms so that both parties know what their rights and obligations will be.
