Neil Staten Bitting Jr.

As a senior member of my firm, I have thirty-five years’ experience in general civil trial practice. I have tried numerous cases to jury verdict in state and federal courts. I regularly represent employers before administrative law judges in workers’ compensation claims. I have represented clients in proceeding before arbitration tribunals.

My experience is wide-ranging. I defend clients in bodily injury, fraud, defamation and other tort suits. I frequently handle commercial, employment and construction disputes. As a Special Assistant Attorney General, I represent the Georgia Department of Transportation in condemnation matters. I defend employers, from local small businesses to large public corporations, in workers’ compensation claims. My practice also includes arguing appeals, when necessary, in state and federal courts and in administrative proceedings.

With the length and breadth of my professional experience, I am frequently asked to serve as a mediator. I have served as mediator in over five hundred disputes, which were resolved.  Mediations have included premises liability, automobile accident, trucking, fraud, commercial, construction, professional negligence, insurance coverage, real estate, contract and various other civil disputes. I regularly serve as mediator in workers’ compensation claims.

A long time active member of the Georgia Defense Lawyers Association, I served as its President in 2009-2010. In that position, I represented GDLA at various events sponsored by the Defense Research Institute.  I also served as Chairman of the Georgia Bar Workers’ Compensation Section. I have been a frequent faculty member in continuing legal education seminars.

I was a member of the Augusta-Richmond County Library Board for twelve years, serving as its President for two years. I served as a member of the Furman University Alumni Board, and I am a Fellow of the Georgia Lawyers Foundation.
