There is a way to serve a person by publication if you do not know her whereabouts. It's not easy and you should contact an Attorney to make sure you do it right. If it's not done right, any custody modification you get may be null and void for lack of proper service.

If this case is in Douglas County, a very long time. Each Burglary county carries a maximum of 20 years. You need to hire an attorney soon. If you can't afford an attorney, you need to apply for a public Defender. Also, do not discuss the facts of the case with anyone except your attorney.
