Yes, you should definitely appeal a denial from Social Security. Hopefully, you have a recent denial and your 60 day appeal time hasn't run? I'm assuming from your question that you are also receiving long term disability from a private insurer and they have assigned a contracting company (such as Allsup?) to assist you in your Social Security claim and oftentimes these representatives are from out of state. Can a stepchild get benefits?

Asked by a user in Douglasville, GA - over 2 years ago.

Stepchildren are entitled to draw dependent benefits in certain circumstances. If your father was providing at least one-half of his stepchild's support at the time he became disabled, then the 17-year old is legitimately drawing dependent benefits. Also, he must be a full-time high school student.

Am I entitled to any special monies?

Asked by a user in Whiteside, TN - about 2 years ago.

Were you out of work at least one year due to your medical condition? if so, you may qualify for a closed end period of disability and should put in an application online or at your local Social Security office. Other than this, I know of no other benefits for which you would be eligible.
