Taylor Laumann Conner

Attorney and Counselor

Taylor Laumann Conner has been licensed to practice law in North Carolina since August 2002. Her primary practice area is criminal law, which includes defending clients on matters from traffic tickets, DWI's, misdemeanors, and felonies in both District and Superior Court. She also provides representation and legal counsel in areas of DMV hearings, sports and entertainment law, contracts and juvenile law.

Mrs. Conner is originally from Thomasville, North Carolina, where she graduated from Thomasville High School. Taylor pursued her college education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she obtained her bachelor of arts degree, double majoring in Political Science and Journalism. After completing an internship with NIKE and the WNBA, she immediately began her legal education at Campbell University's Norman A. Wiggins School of Law where she focused on her goal of becoming a trial attorney. During law school, Taylor worked with the intellectual property firm of Adams, Schwartz and Evans, in Charlotte, North Carolina and with the Education Section of the North Carolina Attorney General's Office in Raleigh. While in school, Taylor received the NC Academy of Trial Lawyers Advocacy Award and national recognition for a paper titled "Intellectual Property Issues Faced by Professional Sports Teams" which she submitted to ASCAP's Nathan Burkan Memorial Competition.

In 2002, Taylor relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina. Thereafter, Taylor began working with the Cabarrus County District Attorney's Office where she practiced as an Assistant District Attorney and gained invaluable trial experience involving traffic, misdemeanor crimes, domestic violence, juvenile crimes and extradition/fugitive matters. During the fall of 2004, Taylor was chosen to represent the state of North Carolina at the National Advocacy Center (NAC) in Columbia, South Carolina where she completed a week-long trial advocacy course with other District Attorneys from across the nation. At the DA's Office, Taylor managed an average caseload each day of 200-350 cases in District Court, the second-highest caseload per District Attorney in the State. Taylor also tried various types of cases in Superior Court and during her time at the DA's office, Cabarrus County lead the region with the highest rate for DWI convictions. In May 2005, Conner left the District Attorney's Office to begin her career in private practice, with a desire to concentrate in criminal and sports law. From 2004-2006, Taylor served as as a council member and newsletter editor for the Sports and Entertainment Section of the NC Bar Association.

In 2007, Taylor was elected by her colleagues to serve as President of the Cabarrus County Bar Association, District 19A. Taylor is a current member of the North Carolina Bar Association, including the sections for criminal law and sports and entertainment. Other memberships include the National Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys. She was also named in the 2007/2008 Honors Edition of Cambridge Who's Who Among Executive and Professional Women.

In her spare time, she enjoys playing sports, travelling, and doing artwork. Taylor also volunteers with the Boys and Girls Club of Cabarrus County and the Cabarrus County Teen Court Program. She is currently serving on the Board of Director's for the Cabarrus Teen Court and Mediation Center.
