    Generally, you have a good cause of action against the landlord, if the landlord was on notice of the defective condition, knew or should have known of the defective condition.

    First, you should contact a New York attorney. Generally, under HIPAA, your medical records are private. Therefore, since your doctor prescribed a service animal, such as a trained seeing eye dog that would assist a blind individual, your NY attorney would be able to assist you in any litigation necessary to force the co-op to allow the animal.

    Unfortunately, I can not comment further, as I am not admitted (licensed) in NY.
