If you have an easy case, then yes, you can pay him a lot of money to look good standing beside you. But outside of that, if you case actually requires work, preparation, motions for discovery, interrogatories, and anything outside of standing next to a client and filing a generic modification order, you are basically out of luck. He stammers over his words, doesn't cross examine, and doesn't review his cases before trial to be well prepared. He throws on a suit and is clean cut and expects that his overall impression will win him over in court. I've heard other family law attorneys say the following, "I mean he looks good and physically well presentable, but not a great let alone good attorney at all". These statements come from both female and male attorneys. Again, he talks a good game to acquire new clients, in relation to very easy matters, and literally fumbles in the end. I would strongly suggest to go to any courthouse where your case(s) is located and literally ask the family law clerks, family paralegals, or any other person who actually works at the courts name 4 or 5 attorneys that they would consider good. I guarantee you, he will not be one of them, HOWEVER, he's always seen at the courthouse because of his very close proximity to the PG County Courthouse (he's right across the street), so the employees know who he is in PG County. He was actually referred by another attorney and I regret the day that I retained him. A complete waste of money and he's not cheap, below average, or even charges an average rate. Don't waste you time, energy, and most of all your money retaining him.
Represented me in previous case with proper case knowledge, but bailed out on me after her said he would represent me on continuing matter at the last minute. Led me to believe after days of communications that he was going to represent me, then after preliminary prep communications and e-mails, cancelled at the last minute on time sensitive court responses due to the court. When the things appeared to be maybe a little to complicated for him to take on, he bailed on me. That's not what a lawyer's supposed to do, especially when they lead you believe from several communications that they would represent you. I believe he's a good lawyer, but he picks and chooses the easy cases to avoid comlexities or tarnishing his record. He doesn't stay the cource! Divorcing men and single fathers, BEWARE!
Attorney Ayo Stevens was actually the second attorney that I had retained, after I had to dissolve the first legal relationship due to a lack of genuine committment to the case. Attorney Stevens was referred to me from a friend, who was sure that I would be pleased with his approach and knowledge in regards to family law. To say that I was impressed can easily be an understatement! Attorney Stevens took my case with very little time to gather the facts, evidence and documents, but he did a superb job in preparation and attention to detail. The opposing counsel was unwilling to work with my former counsel, but she was more than happy to work with Attorney Stevens, which allowed more time to settle the small items of dispute and get to the meat of the case. I suppose being a very well presented and spoken, tall, handsome and knowledgeable attorney does command a certain level of respect from the opposing counsel, as well as all parties involved.
In the end, Attorney Stevens proved himself to be ethical, personable, as well as trustworthy in my opinion, as well as my family. I would definitely recommend him to anyone who needs an attorney in the area of family law in the Maryland area.
Mr. Stevens was referred to me by a good friend of mine when I was going through a very nasty and acrimonious divorce and custody battle with my husband. From the start, Mr. Stevens presented himself as a very concerned, caring, and compassionate lawyer. He always made time to talk to me by phone when I had a question, or when I had a concern. He always followed up and followed through. His attitude was always positive and he never stooped to malicious tactics, which was totally opposite the manner in which my ex-husband's lawyer conducted herself in representing him. He wanted what was best for me, but he went about it in a very fair and conscientious manner. In the end, me and my husband opted to do a consent agreement, and Mr. Stevens was very supportive of my decision, which again was totally opposite the position my husband's lawyer took. He reviewed the consent agreement to make sure it accurately covered all relevant areas, and advised me regarding what was in my best interest to do. Mr. Stevens started off as my lawyer, but he ended as one of my most trusted and respected friends. I highly recommend Mr. Stevens to anyone looking for a lawyer with a high sense of ethics and fair play.
