  • Tow-Truck Company Agrees to Pay $1.18 Million to Couple for Crash Injuries

    A settlement of $1,180,000 was obtained by Sean Quinn and Chris Hinderliter of Sheridan & Murray (Philadelphia) in the case of Harper v. Riehl's Towing & Maintenance Co, et al., New Jersey Superior Court (Camden). John and Carolann Harper were seriously injured in a car crash with tow-truck operator, Jonathan Riehl of Riehl's Towing & Maintenance, on October 27, 2006, while driving on Route 295 in South Jersey. Liability was disputed. John Harper injured his hip and back in the crash,including tears in the right hip labrum and ligamentum teres, an L3-4 disc herniation with an annular tear, and an L4-5 disc bulge with an annular tear. John underwent arthroscopic surgery to repair the labral and ligamentum teres tears in his hip and underwent multiple injections in the hip to manage his pain. John underwent two surgeries for the implantation of a spinal cord stimulator in his back. The spinal cord stimulator is permanently implanted in his body. Despite the efforts of his physicians, Mr. Harper continues to suffer from chronic hip and back pain as a result of this crash and requires the regular use of narcotics to manage his pain. Carolann Harper suffered a bulging disc at C6-7, occipital neuralgia, cervical strain and sprain, and aggravation of a preexisting congenital fusion at C2-3. The Defendants disputed the extent and severity of the injuries suffered by John and Carolann Harper. Defendants were represented by Zurich counsel, Jim Law of Kennedy Campbell (Marlton). The case settled prior to the anticipated start of trial on March 7, 2011.
