Michael Jackson Betts

Michael J. Betts is the founder and principal of Michael J. Betts LLC in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and he has more than 40 years of experience handling securities litigation, FINRA arbitrations, and complex financial fraud disputes. He represents investors and businesses pursuing recovery for losses tied to securities fraud, misrepresentations, unsuitable recommendations, Regulation BI violations, churning, breach of fiduciary duty, and supervision failures, as well as portfolio problems such as overconcentration and poor diversification. Mr. Betts also counsels securities professionals in matters involving Form U4 and U5 disclosures, FINRA expungement requests, Form U5 defamation claims, promissory note and employee forgivable loan disputes, and regulatory investigations. In addition, he handles bank and cyber-fraud matters, including forged or altered checks, fraudulent wire transfers, ACH fraud, cybertheft, and corporate embezzlement and misappropriation. His career has included becoming a litigation partner at Reed Smith Shaw & McClay (now Reed Smith LLP), leading a boutique litigation practice, and serving as in-house litigation counsel for a major bank. Mr. Betts is also a seasoned mediator and arbitrator, approved as a neutral for the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania, certified by FINRA, and a member of the AAA national arbitrator panel.
