Having handled these types of cases for nearly a decade, it is extremely unlikely the DA or police will get involved, as the case, on its face at least appears to be at most a result of negligent or grossly negligent conduct. While you can file a private criminal complaint in Pennsylvania these are rarely successfully prosecuted. This seems to be a typical fact pattern that I see frequently, a potentially undiagnosed bowel obstruction leading to adverse consequences. I am sorry for your loss...
