    A self-employed taxpayer who ran a recruiting/consulting business was audited for two tax years by the IRS. I assisted him in preparing materials after he was issued a Notice of Deficiency. As a small case before the U.S. Tax Court the matter was referred to the appeals office for informal settlement. I represented the taxpayer during the meeting with the IRS representative presenting our substantiation for many of his Schedule C deductions. The taxpayer's tax bill was reduced from $24,000 to $12,000.

    A single father who's wife died in childbirth approached me for estate planning needs. He and his daughter received substantial awards for wrongful death and he also had purchased significant amounts of life insurance. The client therefore has a large potential NJ estate tax due to his assets and as he is not married has limited options to reduce estate tax. We created a revocable living trust and irrevocable life insurance trust for him to significantly reduce his estate tax exposure.
