Don't Throw Your Money Away

I hired attorney Casey to handle a simple divorce contempt. All he had to do was prepare a QDRO and forward some paperwork from me to the plaintiff's attorney, and represent me one time in court. Well - he cashed my check, then did...nothing. I had everything prepared for him to send to the other att...orney - he sat on the documents and did not send for several days. One document which the judge ordered to have sent to the plaintiff within 14 days, he did not send at all! He advised me NOT to comply with the judge order. On the QDRO, which he had in our contract as something that he would have prepared by the court date, he calls me two days before court and says it's too complicated for him - he needs to hire someone else for $500 to do it! So of course that isn't ready for the court date as ordered. It got worse in court. He refused to negotiate any of my points with the other party. He volunteered my tax returns to pay for the other attorney - even though that obligation wasn't even settled. I felt as though he represented the plaintiff instead of me. Then when we are in court, he won't even sit with me - he actually went into a corner and sat by himself with his legs propped out - unbelievable! needless to say, he was awful in front of the judge - stuttering when asked why the QDRO was not done as ordered. The judge laughed at him when he said he had a knowledgeable person lined up to do it - the judge told my ex wife's lawyer to take care of it. I did not look good to the judge thanks to the inaction on attorney Casey's part, and his advice was contrary to the judges orders. I had a bad feeling when he was saying "don't worry about submitting this, don't worry about the QDRO" etc - I should have stuck to my instincts and continued to go pro se rather than hire this guy. He even had the nerve to tell me to give him the check for the other attorney for the QDRO - haha. As soon as I got home from court, I wrote Casey a letter to remove himself from my case.
