Confidence, Expertise and Availability for our son when it was very much needed

Our son was facing misdemeanor charges out of state for underage drinking and petit larceny and we were forced to 'internet search' for lawyers in the Lexington jurisdiction. We had hired another lawyer that was local and well known - but did not provide any confidence in our son's case outcome. Af...ter a week of conversations about jail time and a potential record and possibly an appeal down the road - we searched for another lawyer and thankfully found Mr. Fisher. Mr. Fisher was a great listener, readily available to us by cell to answer any questions during the entire process - he answers his own phone so you don't have to leave messages and play phone tag with an assistant - so rare! Most importantly - he gave my son and us confidence that everything would be ok and that he had a plan. Mr. Fisher was organized and prepared and there were no surprises. The petit larceny was amended and all charges are pending and will be dismissed in a year. It would have been a different outcome with another lawyer - probably another trip to Virginia and an appeal that would have dragged this on and on. This was a first offense - all related to underage drinking and dumb college kid decisions and he was able to convince a tough prosecutor and tough judge that my son was a good kid who made a dumb decision one night and should not have his permanent record affected that could jeopardize his future. Mr. Fisher is NOT cheap - but he will give you his time, consult with you, prepare and be creative in his approach and be confident in his ability to provide the result he promises. I am thankful that we hired him.

Marijuana Possession with Intent Charges Dropped

I found myself facing possible felony charges or at best, misdemeanor charges, because of possession with intent to distribute approximately one half ounce of marijuana in Virginia. I have no prior convictions whatsoever. Mr. Fisher reviewed in detail everything about my case as well as my history ...and personally contacted the officer in charge of my case. Mr. Fisher was able to have all of the charges dropped based on multiple factors. He was also extremely good about staying in touch with me the entire time and did everything in his power to personally work me and help keep me from getting in trouble. I have quite a bit riding on the line right now and Mr. Fisher understood and worked to have the charges dropped. I will be forever grateful for the work of Mr. Fisher in helping to keep my life on track.

Reckless Driving & Hit and Run

My court appointed Lawyer did nothing for me. He got me a plea of a year in jail. I called Mr Fisher and with in a week he had me a much better deal. 80 days in jail, But I could do all in a work release program. I was home every night and worked at my job in the daytime. Best Lawyer you could ask fo...r.

DO NOT Hire This Law Firm

Do NOT hire this law firm. I live in North Carolina, but was arrested for DUI in Virginia, first offense. Needless to say, this was a trying time for me and my family and we really needed a law firm we could trust. I didn’t know any criminal lawyers, so I did some searches and found The Fisher Law Fi...rm which boasts “specialization in DUI and traffic defense. Member of the National College for DUI Defense.” I took advantage of their free consultation, liked what I heard, and hired this firm, which I would later find out was a complete mistake. During the consultation, I was presented with options and a list of things the firm would do to help me. As is was getting close to my appearance date, I called this firm two or three times, was put off each time, and finally spoke to an “Associate” the Friday before the Tuesday I was to appear in court. It was obvious that this Associate was not familiar with my case, but promised to speak with me on Monday. We spoke briefly or a few minutes and agreed to meet at the Courthouse prior to the appearance. It was obvious that little if any time had been spent reviewing the case and it was recommended by the attorney that I accept the D.A.s offer, plead guilty, and accept five days of jail time. Unfortunately, I agreed. At this point I felt as though I did not have any other options and this was minutes before I was to appear. The attorney recommended I agree to time being served at a local jail and begin the sentence on a Friday night. I was sentenced to five days in Jail. His last words were “don’t worry; you should be out by Sunday.” This was based on his supposed familiarity with several jails in Virginia. I was incarcerated on this Friday night at a jail other than the one he initially told me I would be going to. I was not released until Tuesday. I was held in lockdown (segregation) the entire stay, without access to medication, without a change of clothes, without linens, and was placed in a filthy urine-stenched holding cell. Upon release, I called every jail in Virginia (close to his practice location) and determined that no jail near or around his practice held the same definition of a “day in jail.” I was also advised by this lawyer that, since I was arrested in Virginia, I would be able to continue to drive in North Carolina where I live (this, at least from my perspective, was confirmed in a disposition email I received stating that my license was suspended in the Commonwealth of VA). However, a letter I recently received from the NC DMV completely contradicts that statement. I paid this law firm a lot of money and received back less than an hour of an attorney’s time and a brief appearance in court (where he had to be anyway for other traffic cases). Had he spent as much time with me as he did the Assistant D.A., I might have gotten a better outcome. Now, I will need to hire another attorney to help sort out this mess. There truly are two types of attorneys, those who sincerely want to help their clients understand the law, and those that take advantage of you (take the money and run) when you’re most vulnerable. Unfortunately, Fisher Law Firm falls into this latter category. I understand that I made a mistake and was accountable for it, but take your case and your money to a law firm that truly cares about you and in helping you navigate through our complex legal system.

There are a few things left out here. First, she was only charged as a first offense because we were able to exclude her recent prior from the State of North Carolina. So while it was technically her first offense, it was in reality her second. She had no defenses in this case. She wrecked her car, then proceeded to blow twice the legal limit. All that time that our attorney spent speaking with the commonwealth? That was trying to convince them not to have them pursue the 30 day sentence they wanted due to her previous DUI conviction. We got them to agree to the minimum sentence of 5 days. Her options were explained to her and she chose to take the offer, despite the fact that we told her we were ready to try the case if she wanted. We defend people every day, and regularly keep people from having to pay for their own actions. She paid with the minimum consequences allowed by law. Furthermore, our firm has no control over how a jail calculates time or what North Carolina DMV does for a Virginia conviction. I'm sorry she had to serve an additional four days, but if not for our firm she would have been serving another 20 at least.

Got me out of a speeding ticket

I got a speeding ticket for going 79 in a 55. I hired Mr. Fisher for $300 and in the end he got the charge reduced to a equipment malfunction (a non-moving violation.) The fine + court costs were about the same as the speeding ticket but there are no points. I had a couple of problems/conserns wit...h this law firm: - This is a high volume operation. You should only expect to speak with Mr. Fisher during your initial consultation. - In my case there were a paperwork problems and I was found “guilty in absentia” because Mr. Fisher didn’t show up on my court date. Apparently the court didn’t know that I had hired an attorney (this might have been the court’s fault.) Mr. Fisher had to file a motion to re-open my case. Thankfully I had pre-paid my ticket or else my licence would have been suspended. - I called asking questions about my case and all I ever talked to was an answering service. I never was able to reach Mr. Fisher after the initial consultation. No phone calls where ever returned despite promises from the answering service. - Mr. Fisher had other cases to attend to in different courts to so he filed motions to move my trial back several times. My case wasn’t heard until two months after the initial court date. In the end I was able to maintain a clean driving record but I’m not sure if it was worth the hassle.

I remember this gentleman's case. He is right. At that time I was running a high volume, low price firm. These are the type of things that happen in such a practice. I was the lone attorney, handling far more cases than I should. Shortly thereafter I decided that such a way of life was not healthy for me or good for my clients. The result is the Fisher Law Firm you have today. There are now 9 attorneys and a major emphasis on the client experience. We still handle a lot of cases, because we cover the whole state. But now the work is spread out amongst our 9 attorneys and 7 staff members. We and our clients are all happier because of this change. If you have any questions about us, feel free to call any time. I'll be happy to speak with you personally.
