Last year I came under investigation by a federal law enforcement agency which is under the mistaken position that I am using my business to engage in criminal activity. In 2011 my nephew who is like a son to me was arrested in Gwinnett County Georgia for armed robbery. I am the mother of a well known National Football League player and I hoped that the fame of my son would not interfere with my nephew receiving a fair disposition of his case. Following my nephew’s... arrest I hired the law firm of Weintraub & Alper to represent him. When I hired Howard Weintraub and Benjamin Alper I was aware that my nephew was facing at least 10 years in prison if he was convicted of the armed robbery. I prayed to God almost every day that Howard and Ben could somehow be able to spare my nephew from this long time in prison. Through constant communication with my nephew, my sister and me Howard kept us completely aware of everything he was doing over the passage of time in the defense of my nephew. I am a nineteen year old and I was helped twice this year in two cases by Mr. Weintraub. The first one was I signed a contract that I did not understand with a gym and even though I gave medical proof of reason to cancel the gym was threatening me with collections. One call to Mr. Weintraub and h...e told me what I needed to do. Within a couple of weeks -- the gym stopped harassing me and it was over. I also got falsely accused of something this summer that really scared me . Mr. Weintraub kept me informed which really reduced how scared I felt. He talked to me for hours and spent more hours investigating everything and proving my innocence. I was really scared and I am so happy nothing happened to me. With the current state of affairs with police officers and Black American, as the parents of a young Black male that has never, ever, been in trouble with the law and had just graduated from a prestigious University in Atlanta Georgia, it was mind boggling when he was pulled over in Georgia for what ...I feel was being “Black and driving a nice car”, it was the most frighten thing for us to get a call from our son stating that he had been arrested. He was taken to a police station and was not allowed to call his parents. It was only through persistent calling to the police station that we found out that he needed a telephone account to make calls outside the jail to his parents. We didn’t know the charges, reason, or what was happening to our son. I immediately started to research the lawyers in that area that could handle this case and tell us what was going on with our son. We contacted the Law office of Howard J. Weintraub at 11:45 p.m. We knew it was very late and was hoping to receive a call from him the next morning but approximately 30 minutes later at 12:15 a.m., Howard called us in regards to our son. We were totally shocked that a lawyer would call us at that early time of the morning. Howard did not make any guarantees or promises to us. He explained the legal process to us and told us what to expect. He met with our son at 8:30 a.m. that same morning and went over the case with him and with us. Once again, he never made any guarantees or promises to us or to our son but he did say that he would do everything in his power to get the charges reduced and eventually dismissed. Our son was facing felony drug charges and vehicle violations (tint to dark in car). After our son returned home, we were thankful that he did not end up hurt, beaten, or worst dead as a result of what happened on interstate 85 with these police officers. Howard and Ben were a life saver and life line to us and the legal system. Howard never panicked, worried or stressed but kept us focused on taking care of our son and he and his partner, Ben, taking care of this case. Race, social economic status, education, or religion did not matter to Howard and Ben, only ensuring that our son got the best possible legal representation. They fought for our son as if he was their very own relative and they always followed up with us 2-3 times a week letting us know what was going on with his case. I know that isn’t the norm for lawyers but it was for Howard and Ben. In the end, all felony charges have been dropped and he was approved for a diversion program and once that is complete, his record will be expunged. Howard and Ben did assure us that their work would not be completed until every “I” was dotted and every “T” was crossed for our son and his record is expunged. If you want a lawyer that will speak the truth, not BS you, and fight for your rights, then you want Howard and Ben as your lawyers. It’s not a black or white thing for them, it’s the right thing.
