A Cut Above the Rest

DHS in Denver, CO made a finding of child abuse against me, so I hired Doug Cohen as my lawyer to represent me in the case. He is very honest and straight-forward. The case against me was weak, so DHS offered an immediate expungement. Mr. Cohen, being diligent to seek the best possible result for me,... consulted me frequently and was extremely transparent and detailed in everything DHS was doing and saying as well as what his thoughts and guidance were. He said that we should seek to get a reversal in the case, should it not be dragged out for years, thus increasing costs and fees I would incur. We decided to seek a reversal in the ruling, and a date was set for a hearing two years from then. Sewing as how an immediate expungement was very favorable and much more cost effective, Mr. Cohen then advised that fighting for a reversal just did not make much sense from a financial perspective due to the hearing date being so far out. Also, the expungement is a great ruling that should be considered. In the end, I chose the immediate expungement and have no worries about the case any longer. I am very pleased with Mr. Cohen as my lawyer and would hire him again in an instant. He is hard-working, blunt, informative, knowledgeable, tactful, and has integrity to top it all off. I highly recommend Douglas Cohen for anyone seeking legal services. I could not say thank you enough.

thanks so much for your patience in allowing me to explore all options for you and come to the right resolution that resulted in an expungement of the DHS finding. Best wishes to you and your family.

Went Out of His Way to Help

I was referred to Doug in July 2022 due to a DUI charge in Cheyenne, WY (Laramie County). Never having any previous charges in my life, and therefore not really knowing the best course of action, I pled guilty to the DUI in my initial hearing. I contacted multiple attorneys in my home town, none of w...hom returned my calls once they learned I pled guilty. So I was in a panic as I had no idea how to navigate the "system" I was dealing with (WY DOT, my mandated ETG tests, my court ordered Substance Abuse Evaluation, etc.). I was finally referred to Doug, and after the experience I had with the previous attorneys, I wasn't expecting much. I told him at the beginning of the call that I had pled guilty, and not only did he spend 30 minutes advising me on that initial call, he advised me that he didn't want to take any money because as I had pled guilty he wasn't sure what he could do! Not something I was expecting at all. However, his assistance didn't stop there. Over the course of the next three weeks, we traded emails (which he always promptly responded to) where he advised me on matters such as: 1) Since it was my first offense, he informed me of WY Statute 7-13-301 The Deferred Conviction First Offender Statute that allows the court to place the defendant on probation, and if/when those probationary requirements are met, the initial charge is dismissed. I made this request and it was granted! I wouldn't have even known to request this were it not for Doug. This likely saved my career as otherwise, I would have had a DUI conviction on my record for 10 years. 2) He suggested I write a letter to the presiding judge, as well as the DA, in advance of my sentencing hearing letting them know it was first offense and why I think I qualified for the Deferred Conviction, which I did. 3) he navigated me through dealing with the Wyoming Dept of Transportation to make the request for a Probationary License, which was granted. This also helped me avoid damage to my career as it allows me to continue to drive to and from work every day. 4) He helped me prepare for my SAT/ASI Evaluation. As a result, I the recommendation I received was for the minimum 8 hour DUI class. During our email correspondence, I again offered to pay a retainer to secure his help, but again, as he felt there wasn't much he could do due to my guilty plea, he wouldn't take it. I can't tell you how impressive this still is to me, especially after my initial attempt to secure counsel. Not only does Doug and his firm come highly regarded by others in he legal profession (the attorney who referred me to Doug is tops in his field in Colorado), I can attest, based on my experience, that he is an honest, ethical person who clearly wants to help.

Glad it worked out for you and that I could steer you in the right direction...but next time (of if a friend asks) yes, hire counsel before you plead guilty!!

Friendly, smart and professional.

I’d leave 10 stars if I could. I hired Doug for my DUI and he knew what to do to get the best result possible. He showed me exactly what to do and how to do it all the way through. I got less than half the probation and fines that I would’ve got if I didn’t lawyer up with Doug. 100% worth it.

The best financial and strategic decision I have made

I hired Doug Cohen to represent me in allegations of sexual misconduct and harassment. We were initially introduced to him on recommendation from a well-known and respected personal injury lawyer. Facing potentially life-altering charges is deeply unnerving - it put me in a state of shock and, fran...kly, I was unsure about putting my faith in anyone to fully and adequately represent my interests. You want to make sure you are hiring the best person for the job and, as someone who didn’t deal with the legal system often, I felt unsure and afraid. However, from my first interactions with Doug, it immediately became clear that Doug was incredibly knowledgable, quick-thinking, and would be a true advocate for me. This proved to be true throughout the process. In retrospect, it was clear that from the moment I explained my case to Doug that he understood what needed to be done and had a vision for how to build a compelling case for dismissal. He acted swiftly and decisively to secure all of the elements he needed to present the detective with a case to not pursue charges. The district attorney ultimately chose NOT to pursue charges and the potentially life-altering consequences went away. I have Doug to thank for that and I am eternally grateful. In hindsight, hiring Doug Cohen was the best financial and strategic decision I have ever made. I could not be more grateful to his expertise, empathy, and rapid action. I would highly recommend Doug to anyone in need of competent and effective legal help.

Being falsely accused of a sex offense a very stressful experience for anyone to go through. I appreciate you putting your full faith and trust in me and my investigators, and for allowing us to present the facts to the police and prosecutors to avoid charges being filed against you. Best wishes to you.

The Best Call We Ever Made!!!!

My family has had no experience with lawyers except getting our end of life documents in order. Our 12-year old son went to a classical education charter school where the principal allowed the middle schoolers to partake in a snowball fight for days. The two rules were to only play with those parti...cipating and display moderation. Oh, and there was no adult supervision. By the third day the snow was a huge pile of ice being guarded by the 8th graders, doling out ice to their friends and 7th and 8th graders pelting each other with ice balls. Our son was hit in the head twice with ice, once in his hearing aide and he has sensory processing disorder. When our kid was hit in the head with an ice ball he took that kid to the ground for about a second when the bell rang and the kids went into the school. No kids were hurt or reported anything to the administration. The next day the parent of the boy my son took to the ground called the police and my son was charged with assault. We called Doug based on a recommendation and it was the best thing we could've done. As parents we were incensed that a snow ball fight was allowed at the school at all but from the first meeting with Doug Cohen, he made it very clear that he was being hired to help our son get out of this situation not argue how wrong the school was. Doug Cohen took Ben's account of what happened. Doug Cohen reminded us many times that his job was to help our son not go after the school. And that is what he did. Doug listened to us and what we wanted to happen for our son and he fought for him. The city attorney only read the police report which had nothing substantial in it and cried "guilty". Doug spent many hours talking with the city attorney on behalf of our son, pointing out the school's negligence, the part the other middle school kids' played in the event and the disabilities that our son had. Doug spoke to so many people involved in our son's life to better help his defense. Doug tried to contact the parents of the any other kids on the playground and he even was able to get in touch with the parent who called the police on our son in the first place. Doug Cohen constructed the most amazing Request for Dismissal, citing in detail the negligence of the school, the part the other kids played and again our son's disabilities. We were so impressed by all the work that Doug had done on our son's case that we knew Doug had done everything we had paid him to do....Fight for our son. We were so happy that we found the best attorney to not only get the charges dropped but also prove our son was innocent, highlighting the negligence of the school. This time has been very scary, trying and emotional for our family. Doug Cohen put us at ease (as much as is possible) with his professionalism, experience and hard work. He never lost site of what his job was and he worked hard to that end. We are very happy with Doug Cohen and would recommend him should anyone find themselves or their kids in a bad situation.

thank you so much for trusting me with your son's case. He has been through a lot and didn't deserve to be arrested. I am so glad we were able to right the ship for him and allow him and the entire family to move forward.
