If you are applying for a federal disability retirement hire a lawyer from the start, preferably this lawyer. The OPM process seems cut and dry but there are things you need to know before you submit your package. My son had to apply for a reconsideration because he was not aware of those things. We...rsing provided a free consultation and it was apparent from the start he knew the OPM process and ATC disability in particular. He knew from the onset why the application was denied and what was need for it to get approved., specifically statements from the attending physicians that addressed the mandatory prerequisites for approval.
