I hired Mr Zavistoski in November 2018 to represent me in a DUI case. He promised we would meet in his office. We never did. He pushed the date back twice and the third time we met in court; he told me he could not push it back anymore. He made it sound like I asked to push the court dates out. ...He told me because this is my first offence; that I would be given seven months suspension and 6 months interlock device. The judge ordered my license suspended for seven months and interlock device installed during the suspension PLUS six months after. Totaling 13 months. Motor vehicle sent me a notice within 30 days of my suspension stating the interlock device would have to be installed for 13 months AFTER my license were restored. Although Mr. Zavistoski told me that "I would be the first person to ever install an interlock device during suspension", I installed it during suspension anyway (this was my first experience in court in my 53 years of life. I was nervous and did not want compounded issues). After receiving notice from NJDMV stating the interlock device would begin AFTER the restoral of my license; I immediately called this lawyer and he said, "That's a mistake" and said he would fix it for me. I followed up with him several time. He eventually stopped answering my calls. I went before the judge again, alone this time, and was told I would have to take it up with NJDMV. NJDMV is telling me it must be corrected by the courts. This lawyer did not speak in my defense, and he lied about getting the matter fixed. In the end, I will have had the device on my car for a total of 20 months instead of 13 months (I'm paying close to $100/mo and the device is causing mechanical issues). He gave me misleading information, lied to me and did not represent in my best interest. I really regret my decision to use him.
