While I understand the justice system is in no rush to deal with petty crime, I cannot say that investing a 1000 USD in services from Travis Tormey was worth it.

 In fact, I can instead say that it was essentially worthless.

 After physically going to court four times before a verdict was made, ...Tormey made one suggestion to alleviate the case (the second to last trial, of course) which the judge frantically denied.

 I would contact him for updates and he would tell me we are still waiting. Instead of waiting around, I would ask friends in law school what they would do and make these suggestions to Tormey. He would deny and again, say we have to wait. All in all, I did not need representation as he did nothing for me or my case. Would have been the same slow, uneasy trial if I stepped into court alone.

 Now that all is said and done, he told me he would help expunge this arrest for another whopping amount because he 'only makes a few hundred out of it' and its heavy paperwork. I would say do not waste your time.

He got rid of a DUI for me ( i wasnt driving nor under the influence. I was asleep on private property) but did not get rid of the refusal to take a breathalizer. In NJ this is way worse than a DUI. Its 7 months license suspension, then 6 months with an ignition interlock on your car then 3 years o...f thousands and thousands of fine to NJ motor vehicles. And very high insurance premiums for 4 years. He didnt explain any of this. Watch out for this guy. Hard to work with, Smug, condescending attitude.

I hired Travis to handle gun charge and DWI charge. Overall my experience with was a negative one...poor communication and unprofessional. Travis came to court for me only once. Then another lawyer Christopher Perry was assigned and told me I should take a 12 month DWI plea despite my case not going... to trial more than 12 months after my gun charge was dismissed---speedy trial violation! Christopher told me I was guilty and tried to intimidate me to take a plea to which I did not because I knew my rights!! On one occasion he said, that I "was guilty and called me stupid for not accepting the plea." He quit during my trial and I was assigned another lawyer Brent DiMarco who also did not fight my case aggressively and also tried to force me to take a plea. They told me plainly they were going to lose & they were right! They lost my DWI trial, but I hired another law firm and WON my case on appeal!! Had they filed the necessary paper work when I asked they could have won, but my messages to go to court after my gun charge case went unanswered. Not to mention there were so many other errors including alcotest reading error!! Anyway, they told me to just wait for the court date. the court date took so long I thought it was disposed of. Then, I finally got a notice more than 1 year later, to which they were unprepared and expected me to settle. They have many years experience and I'm quite sure they were familiar with the courts judge--there are no excuses to why they could not beat my case. Except lack of preparation and not assigning the lawyer I hired to represent me in my case!! That was the primary reason I hired Travis in the first place! But, to no avail!! When I was arrested I had no children by the time I was brought to trial I was a mother --the case was older than my kids!! Long story short they have the gift of gab but ain't worth the money! They had no compassion either I was fully high risk pregnant and miserable & depressed by that time in my third trimester and bringing my one year old to court with me. I was 42 weeks and still trucking! I had to fight! I had to write letters requesting a stay on my license and 3 month conditional plea! pending appeal ! We had made agreements prior to Chris quitting they would accept that, but when I was assigned the new lawyer they took the offer back and denied the license stay and I was found guilty and fines! The outcome was worse! Ay my trial I had to speak on my behalf and although the courts agreed to the license stay! They suspended my license anyway! Worst experience ever! Suppose I was pulled over with my toddler and pregnant! So don't settle if you know your case is worth fighting for even if your lawyer disagrees! Ask the right questions and don't hire this firm! I did my part and they should have done theirs. Why I didn't hire another attorney because I could not afford too! But, never again!

I called Mr. Tormey due to the fact that I am looking to retain an attorney to vacate a final FRO against me on the factor that the plaintiff told me it was dismissed and has contacted me. He returned my call promptly and seemed very knowledgeable. He even spent as much as at least 15 minutes over th...e phone discussing my options. He gave me a reatsiner fee and I said I could come with everything but 1.000 dollars immediately. My court date was 2 days from the day we spoke. He advised me he was available that day and that this was his cell number to call him back whenever my decision was made. So, that’s exsctly what I did! I called him back a few hours later to tell him my decision and even left a voice mail. He never returned my call so the following day which was the day before my hearing I left him another voice mail. He never returned either calls. Now I know attorneys are busy and sometimes forget to return calls. So, I left him a final message telling him I actually had the whole retainer if that would make a difference. I finally get a call today from his secretary advising me he wasn’t interested in taking my case and to stop calling his phone repeatability. Really?!!! he’s the one who gives out his cell number and clearly states to you call me whenever your ready to retain me but doesn’t have the commen courtesy to return a phone call advising he’s not available an or not interested in taking my case. Which would of been totally ok had he not wasted my time and returned my calls. SHEESH! DONT THEY TEACH YOU COMMON COURTESY IN LAW SCHOOL?!

My spouse whom I was about to divorce charged me with simple assault. I initially did not get an attorney because I maintained my innocence of assaulting my wife. Looking back I felt as though the courts, and police were not all that interested in getting down to the truth of the matter when it comes... down to "domestic violence" cases, as a result I had a Final restraining order against me from a New Jersey Court. Afterwards, I did retain an attorney with the Tormey Law Firm. I had the same experience as another Poster, Ray M. Paying cash up front, and then case was handed off to an "Associate Attorney". They took my case and money, heard nothing from them for 2 weeks. They were essentially waiting on this report from the courts with police reports and other details of my case. The lawyers essentially expected my wife to drop the charges, telling me to sit tight and wait. Well, as the court date draws near, wife shows no sign of wiling to drop charges, I continued to maintain my innocence, and even volunteered to take lie detector test in front of the courts. Unfortunately, according to the lawyer, Municipal courts do not do Lie Detector tests. On court date lawyer keeps making excuses of why prosecutor did not suggest alternative options to my wife, in the end my lawyer keeps telling me we don't have much of a case, and suggested I plead guilty and just pay the fine to avoid "Possible Jail" time. All the scrambling that I've done to put together evidence package to maintain my innocence was for naught. Another thing is during the 2 weeks this Law Firm sat on my case, I had an opportunity to repeal the Final Restraining Order, this option was never brought up, when I confronted the Associate Attorney about this, he got defensive. So basically, the client does all the scrambling, lawyer does as little as possible, and collects fees. Courts, lawyers and police all look at these cases as a job, they want to resolve cases as quickly as possible, collect the fines, fees, etc... Getting the truth is never their priority.
