After a night of black-out intoxication, I was hit with a trumped-up 2nd Degree Felony charge. David advised me that although the state's physical evidence was lacking, my testimony would have been weak since I was in an altered state at the time of the alleged offense, and a jury would have been sy...mpathetic for the prosecution. Our best bet, he counseled, was for me to clean up my life and go out of my way to provide evidence to that effect - records of drug and alcohol treatment, employment status, proof of continued sobriety, and anything else that could help our case. When the charges were made against me, it was devastating - I lost my job and at that time I would have been happy to just stay out of prison. David helped me get a personal bond, which meant I never even spent a night in jail. He then helped me through the process, and let me know all about what was going to happen and what I had to do to move forward, even when that just meant being calm and patient. After close to 18 months of pretrial, all that patience and hard work paid off when we received a plea agreement for a Class B Misdemeanor. Some probation, community service, and a small fine. As opposed to up to 20 years in prison, loss of voting and firearm privileges, and a permanent record that would have haunted me for life. This outcome was better than I could have even imagined when we began this journey. It just goes to show what comes with self-improvement, a little faith, and of course top-quality legal representation. At the end of the day, David's representation wasn't cheap, but I'd hate to think where I'd be if I had gambled my life for a few dollars. A felony record, prison...those things don't go away, but you can always make a little more money if you commit yourself. In my case at least, it was money well spent!
