A licensed therapist review

Sharing my personal experience and opinion, as a licensed therapist and client. I had an unfortunate and intimidating experience with this attorney. I think John is intelligent, though I was warned “he has no friends in the bar.” I asked about an email I had sent 10 days prior on case progression and... for an itemized statement (with no answer). When I followed up, he said I “should have texted him” and “if you want to pounce on me for failure, I am not interested and if you’re so unhappy I will withdraw.” I had never been given his personal cell, nor had I mentioned wanting to end services. As a client, all I asked for a case progression update and for a statement, 10 days after hearing no response. Personal cell contact seems like a strange boundary for attorney/client, to me. A couple of moments after the email exchange, he began sending me texts on my personal cell and said I ought to communicate with him there when I don’t get answers to my emails “or if you think I am ignoring your case.” I had not yet responded to his email when I began receiving texts from John Kinney on my personal cell. I mentioned I would have support members of my family read over the exchange between us, he responded “no need to wait, I am withdrawing.” I am a licensed therapist and John mentioned in the initial call he likes to use “emotional intelligence” to work cases, and was really interested in my work and local practice ownership. In my opinion, this was a serious display of power and control, and lacks ethical adherence in terms of client communications - and it happened quickly upon requests for typical information (case progress, financial statements). He also left me abruptly without representation — for asking questions. My personal opinion as a woman - Female clients should proceed with caution.

Do Not Hire

John yells at his clients and treats people as if above them. He is fine when he gets is retainer money, but very quickly after that stops working on the case. Does not respond to emails, when he does it is rude. Extremely disorganized. Opposing counsel was always five steps ahead. Does not ca...re about his clients and does not finish the job hired to do.

Stay FAR away!

John was arrogant and disrespectful from the beginning of the divorce process. In my consult with him, he told me he was one of the best, if not THE best, divorce attorney in Omaha (HAHA)! He called me names over the phone, disrespected my wishes when it came to depositions or trial representation,... and was the ultimate reason my divorce ended worse than it started. The decree was 100% written by my spouses attorney, contained much personal and mental health related information and was not signed by John. During trial and depositions, he didn't refute information that wasn't factual, was downright untrue or much of it that was out of date. He literally got DESTROYED by my wife's attorney in every, and I do mean EVERY, aspect of my case. His lack of effort or knowledge of the law directly resulted in me losing tens of thousands of dollars, household items and ultimately (and hopefully just temporarily) my daughters. He's about as worthless as an attorney as he is a human being. Do yourself a favor and find someone else.

Who are these other Liers?

John Kinney and Kinney Law, Let this letter serve as notice that I am discontinuing my service with Kinney Law. I’m very dissatisfied with the service that was provided to me. I have only spoken with you twice, John. Once at our initial consultation which I paid $150 and the other was at the te...mporary custody hearing. You screen my calls and do not answer my e-mails. It’s the 21st century, I can provide proof of these accusations. I’ve spent $4,000; and what have you done to get me to see my child or to get my divorce processed? Google has much more of a help than you or anyone in your office to navigate this process. You have failed at the task in which I hired you for, which was to represent me. For these reasons, you are fired. Should you come into contact with any of my personal information please forward it to my address: Dustin.

Don't waste your time or money with this guy!

Don't waste your time or money with this guy! His one price fits all option does not work out so well. I hired him to represent me in my divorce and custody trial. Once I paid him, he did not do the legwork required to represent me adequately. I almost lost my kids because of him, and my ex sp...ouse walked away with all of the marital assets, including the Harley Davidson, the home, both vehicles, and even the kids savings accounts. Which my parents funded. I was only awarded $244 a month and child-support, for four children, I have them 50% of the time, and I make half the money my ex-spouse does. He did nothing to fight for me, or my kid's well-being. If you're looking for an honest attorney, PLEASE look elsewhere!
