Prosecutors are there to try the case. If you go in by yourself, you are up against a lawyer who is there to convince the judge your guilty. It's not a negotiation! The process is very formal but not knowing the law, I need someone who knows what's going on. Even if it's for my education. My case was a minor traffic violation. My outcome was going on supervision. In my situation, for the kind of ticket I had, I may have been better off taking a class. That said, having a lawyer is the only way to keep things fair. What would I like to see? Teach a man to fish, I'd like to see some of the workings of the system so I can iron out minor traffic tickets myself.
