Extremely Effective Defense Lawyer

Where to start... Jon Katz was an absolutely incredible lawyer throughout my whole process... beginning, throughout, and even after. He is very knowledgeable, and he used everything he had to help get the Virginia shoplifting case against me completely dismissed. He's the best Fairfax criminal lawyer..., for sure. He gave me some assignments to do, based on hearing about the case, and I highly recommend doing/taking everything he says seriously. Doing so was another tool in his arsenal to get us victory. He was accessible, easy to talk to, professional, and an all round incredible lawyer. He helped to put me at ease throughout the process, and he fought for me.  He took care of the entire process in a very smart and honest way. I'm so grateful for him and would highly recommend him for you too!

A John Grisham Character

Jon was able to negotiate a settlement with the prosecutor that was initially a plea to a lesser charge; then a dismissal of that charge, without admission of guilt, and without conviction . He also negotiated several thousand dollars in fines, down to only paying a one hundred dollar court... cost. This result was quite a lot more than I had thought possible. Jon had settled a case that potentially would lead to serious jail sentence - down to essentially no serious penalty at all. This is what Jon did: 1. Over multiple weekly phone conversations, he interviewed me about all relevant factors of the case. 2. He aggressively sought and obtained - thru "discovery", and "Brady" -- multiple bodycams from arresting officers. He spent about 12 hours reviewing these videos carefully. He used the term "inside the four square corners". This was a term that reflects a careful search for precisely what was used by police to obtain consent to search, and all aspects of the arrest - and if the provided video evidence supported or challenged - the eventual charges. He carefully looked for any details from the scene, or from dialogue, that were exculpatory. 3. He assigned me multiple tasks, beginning on day one - that forced me to focus on the charges, weigh my culpability, and make strong behavioral changes that may possibly indicate to prosecution that I recognize the problems I have created, and am taking direct actions to counter the damage I have done- and obviate future injury or harm. This was additionally helpful because it provided me with a sense of some control over my situation. 4. He spoke to me on numerous occasions, by phone, to give a detailed plan for my defense. He informed me in a firm but also supportive way - seeking my consent - and he was realistic - but also allowed some hope and dignity for the position I was in. 5. He did an extensive literature and case review to find any prior cases that could act as precedent in my case. He was able to find a recent, high profile case, that was settled in a Virginia Court. Its main elements were similar to mine. Jon obtained the transcript of the cross-examination in that case. When Jon had reviewed those elements, he was then able to hire an expert witness who could address the discovered vulnerabilities. 6. Jon showed an extensive knowledge of case law. He also showed expertise in the plea negotiation process. 7. The day of trial, Jon was able to show the prosecutor, and the judge, that he was prepared to offer a methodically laid out defense, with recent precedent, and expert testimony. Also, he was able to present me in a context a little broader that just a person attached to these charges. He showed this event in a broader sense of my life, and convinced the judge that I had taken steps to correct my problems, and that I had been of service to society for many decades. He presented what I believe to be an accurate and FAIR assessment of my situation. I can look back over the past several months since I hired Jon. It started as a google search for "Best Virginia Lawyer". The first search results, at the top of the page- I knew these were paid advertisements. I generally skip these ads, trying to find the most accurate reviews. But - and I am happy I did - I also reminded myself that these ads are PAID FOR and whoever is paying for the ads likely IS SUCCESSFUL , so I gave Jon a shot. He has a long record of success - and I am happy I made that choice.

Standing up for your rights!!

Jon came highly recommended from a friend whose case he got dismissed. Jon was very attentive and in a hard time provided the compassion and sense of direction needed. Every document was scanned and sent to me immediately upon receipt. He constantly stayed in contact with me throughout the whole proc...ess. His attention to detail made the difference in the end. I agreed to a plea based on the words of the prosecutor, however when time came for sentencing the prosecutor wanted to go back on their words. Jon fought tooth and nail and only through his attention to detail and knowledge of law got the prosecutor to agreed to what she originally promised. This proved Jon's worth and then some. I can say he genuinely cared about my well being and truly went to battle for me. Thanks Jon!!!

Thanks for the opportunity to pursue justice for you. How unfortunate when a prosecutor or any other lawyer goes back on their word. I reduce that risk by sending prosecutors timely written confirmations of our agreements, and here you and I ultimately prevailed in obtaining the result you wanted. Thanks again.

Methodical and Tenacious ( DUI - NOT GUILTY)

First off - Jon is a very affable person who makes you feel at ease when explaining your situation. He is non-judgmental, does not look down you or the situation and warms up to you pretty quick thereby putting you at ease and allowing you to give him very critical and important information crucial t...o handling the case. I have been arrested twice for DUI within a span of 1 year and things for not looking good at all - I was depressed, stressed and extremely worried. Jon came highly recommended and I reached out and he worked his schedule around to meet with me the same day after office hours. I explained my situation to him - and after patiently listening to me for a half hour it to me right on my face (2nd arrest in short span) would trigger jail time in addition to ASAP, restricted license and probation). He gave me homework and said he will only be able to his best if I am diligent with the homework. Jon is well read, knows the law and most importantly knows how the Fairfax County court works as he is there every single day. He knows the Judges and Prosecutors - and clearly explains his strategy clearly before each court date. (Yes, he would ask for continuances so that you do enough homework to strengthen your case). I had very little hope, given how I screwed up and even registered for ASAP voluntarily based on Jon's suggestion. I did all he asked in with diligence and just trusted Jon to be my savior. On the trail date - he can very prepared and relentlessly pursued the prosecution to offer plea, and in those discussions found out multiple flaws in the case and also quickly assessed the weaknesses in case. He said he that we should stop asking for a plea - and go to trial. His demeanor, confidence and erudite assessment of the situation and hand was so convincing and impressive that I said I will just follow his orders. The trial lasted for over an hour and Jon was relentlessly pounding the officer, prosecutor and changing the thinking of the judge with every new argument exposing several weaknesses in the case. What was hopeless slowly started t0 look better due the methodical and tenacious behavior of Jon. Result: NOT GUILTY. Hands down – the best choice I have made based on my overall experience, I would STRONGLY RECOMMEND HIM. DO whatever he says and give him the ammunition to fight for you. He can make things happen. Have belief and respect his homework, decisions and most importantly his gut feeling on how to proceed.

The BEST!

I was charged with DUI and refusal to take a breathalyzer in Loudoun County and, like many other people, I was left in disbelief and with many questions on my mind. I knew I needed to find a lawyer that would fight for me and my case. I met with Jon and with about 5 other lawyers to try and find the ...right lawyer. I decided to hire Jon because I felt that he would fight tooth and nail for me and my case. I could tell after meeting with him that he would take my situation seriously and would do whatever was in his power to get me the best outcome. I liked that he was honest and up-front with me about my case. He shared the strengths and weaknesses of my case with me and never promised me any outcomes or things he couldn’t deliver. He sat down with me to prioritize the possible outcomes of my case based on my preferences before heading to negotiate with the prosecutor. We showed up to court and Jon worked tirelessly to try to negotiate a deal with the prosecutor. He also talked to the police officer and was able to work with him to help my case. We left that day with no deal when the prosecutor wouldn’t budge, but Jon said he was confident and ready to go to trial, so we got a trial date and started to prepare. We showed up again for trial, where Jon told me again that he would fight for me and that he was prepared to go to trial if the prosecutor wouldn’t negotiate a deal. Jon walked into the prosecutor’s office and 5 minutes later walked out with the refusal charge dropped and the DUI charge reduced to a reckless driving! I couldn’t believe it. I cannot begin to say how thankful I am to Jon! I was extremely nervous during this process but Jon kept me calm at court, which I appreciated. Also, kudos to him and Lori for helping me through a situation with my difficult VASAP case manager. Jon was always available if I needed him or had any questions. Yes, Jon is more expensive than other lawyers around the area, but that’s because he is truly the best! Do the homework he gives you and trust in Jon! You will not regret it.

Thanks for commenting. What a wonderful outcome we obtained for your case. Yes, it is always essential to be ready for trial in criminal cases, as that both strengthens negotiations, and also keeps us in a strong position if negotiations do not work. Thanks also for commenting on my staff, which is a key part of this battle for my clients.
