Possession of Marijuana

I'm a 35 yr old college grad, with a typical NOVA contract gig, a growing business, and a family. I work hard during the day and at night I enjoy hanging out with my friend Mary Jane. We've been friends a long time and that friendship grew stronger after I was diagnosed with MS 2 years ago. Usually w...e only hang out at home but one night in June, I decided to drive her to a friends home to share the love. Around 3 am I left my friends house and headed home. Less than 2 miles from home, a Fairfax County cop began to follow me. After about a mile, the cop pulls me over. I ask what's the issue? The cop responds that my window tint is too dark. I explain that I'm driving a loaner car because mine is in the shop. At that point, she says that she smells marijuana. And I immediately regret not spraying myself down before heading home. Well back and forth convo, a car search and drug field test later, I'm issued a citation and told that I am required to appear in court for the charge of marijuana possession (less than 8 grams). After beating myself up for a day or two, I turned to google to find out exactly how much trouble I was in with this charge. After reading horror stories about possession charges in Fairfax, I stumbled across Jon's blog. I read EVERYTHING and EVERY REVIEW. I emailed him the next day. He called me himself the next day. At the consultation Jon was very upfront about the process and expectations in regards to his rate, my homework, and the possible outcomes of my case. Most importantly, I left that consultation feeling like he was on my side and would fight for me. The court date. I'm a nervous wreck, couldn't recall simple details. I cried. Jon kept me in check and DID NOT STOP WORKING. Jon Katz fought for me. He worked that courthouse, speaking with the prosecutor, the cop, and whoever else he needed to talk too. The outcome. The prosecutor decided not to pursue the charges...Nolle Prosequi! My advice. Get the homework done. Don't leave out any details. Don't m wait until the last minute. I would recommend Jon Katz any day.

Jon saved me!!!

I hired Jon Katz when I was charged with a petit larceny case. It was my first time offense and I was really worried bout the consequences. I decided to go with Jon after doing extensive online research and meeting him in person for a free consultation. He was very responsive to all my questions a...nd concerns and we were constantly in touch during the 3 months before the court date. He outlined steps for me, recommending me to do them before the court date. I followed the steps he laid out which really helped my case. On the court date, Jon did his magic! He talked with the loss prevention officer before my case was called which resulted in my case getting dismissed!!! That was more than I could have ever hoped for. I would highly recommend Jon to anyone seeking a top-notch criminal defense attorney. I am so glad Jon handled my case as he was very reassuring during the whole process which made me feel comfortable and hopeful. For anyone in a similar situation looking for a criminal defense attorney, Jon will not disappoint you and do everything he can to bring you the best results.

Thanks for your feedback, and for pointing out the importance of following the proposed assignments that I recommend to my clients. We took a potentially damning criminal charge and ended up with a case dismissal. All the best to you. Jon

He will get you the best possible outcome

I hired Jon Katz to defend me on a class 1 misdemeanor case. I was caught on a sting operation and the evidence was stacked against me. So, a possible outcome would have been a conviction which would have ruined my relationships, reputation and employment. When I talked to Jon the first time for a fr...ee consultation, he listened to me, explained the law and what the possible outcome would be. He explained that an out-right dismissal may not be possible due to the evidence against me but a plea deal for a different unrelated charge, which does not have the negative stigma associated with the original charge, may be possible. But he also mentioned that he is ready to fight for me to get the best result, but asked me to do some homework such as voluntary community service to strengthen my case. He was very compassionate and mentioned that the crime I was being accused of should not be deemed a crime and is not a crime in many parts of the world. Needless to say, I was very impressed and hired him on the spot. Jon kept in touch throughout the period before my case date and inquired about the progress I made on the homework. Before the case date, Jon talked with me about my case and informed me about what to expect given the judge and prosecutor assigned on that day. On the case date, Jon was not able to get the prosecutor to budge on a plea and proceeded to go to trial. However, the witnessing officer already left the courtroom at this point. The case was continued at the request of the prosecutor. On the next case date, Jon used the fact that he already wanted to go to trial on the first date, to convince the prosecutor to make a deal. In the end Jon was able to negotiate a great plea deal for me with an amened charge and no active jail sentence. I looked up similar plea deals from other cases and found that most of them carried some active jail term. Moreover, the original charge can now be expunged to clear my name from it. In the end, it was a painful ordeal, but Jon helped me to overcome it. I am very grateful for his help to regain my footing after I lost it.

The Best Lawyer in Fairfax

I was very grateful to have Jon Katz as my attorney. He represented me successfully on a DUI and several alcohol related charges that could have put me in jail as a convicted felon, a concern that caused great anxiety. I shouldn't have feared, though. When Jon is in a courtroom, he absolutely owns it... with his confidence and presence of mind. He is, of course, a brilliant, experienced attorney and at the very top of his game... his exceptional reviews are 100% accurate, from my own experience. When you walk into court room and see the row of police officers, the prosecutors and the judge and the indifference of "the system" towards you, you will not regret that you have Jon's strength and power on your side. Fighting on the side of the better angels of our nature; one of the most competent people at their profession I've ever met. Our community is very lucky to have an attorney of this caliber available for hire in our area.
