I attended an immigration consultation with Attorney Paul S. Haar, accompanied by my 14-year-old daughter. The consultation was originally scheduled for 12:00 p.m., then moved by the office to 1:30 p.m. that same day. I arrived on time, but Mr. Haar did not arrive until approximately 2:15 p.m., an...d the consultation began around 2:20 p.m. The office had informed me in writing that the consultation would last one hour, and I paid $500 in cash. During the meeting, several of my questions remained unanswered. When I stated that I wished to use the remaining consultation time to ask additional questions, Mr. Haar became aggressive, raised his voice, repeatedly interrupted me, and spoke to me in a hostile and sarcastic manner. When I referred to immigration procedures previously completed in Panama, he reacted angrily and made mocking remarks. He also stated, in substance, that if I wanted to stay or sleep in his office, there was no problem. I told him that his tone and conduct were inappropriate, particularly because my 14-year-old daughter was present. I then ended the consultation and left the office. My daughter was deeply distressed and left the office in tears. My husband later contacted Mr. Haar in an attempt to obtain an explanation and resolve the matter calmly, but no apology was provided. Because of the seriousness of this experience, I filed a formal complaint with the Office of Disciplinary Counsel of the District of Columbia. Our primary objective is not financial compensation. We are seeking acknowledgment that this conduct was inappropriate and a sincere apology to my daughter, my family, and me. I do not recommend this attorney. I expected professional legal guidance, respect, and a calm discussion. That was not my experience.

Paul Haar can be described in one word, “Amazing.” Paul Haar answers his phone, day or night, weekends, and holidays. When he is on vacation. During client meetings: if he gets a call from another client, he answers. But it doesn’t stop with the fact that Paul answers his phone, there is more… L...et me explain, my wife’s immigration status is complicated. We met with three different lawyers, Paul being one of them. They all told us the same thing; we had a compelling case because I am a U.S. citizen and because we have a child with Down syndrome. BUT, if we got an unfavorable decision, then there would be no appeal, no recourse, no second chance: my wife, the mother of our intellectually disabled child, could be taken from us and deported to her home country. It is just the way the law is written, and our SAFEST strategy was to wait for immigration reform and hope for more reasonable / more humane laws regarding people with the complications my wife had concerning her status in this country. I contacted the offices of my Congressman and my Senators. I spoke with two different staff members, one from my congressman’s office and one from one of my Senator’s offices, who specialize in complicated immigration cases. They both told me the same thing, the risk for a bad decision was likely low, because we had a compelling case, but what we were risking was high because a bad decision would result in immediate deportation. And, if that were to happen, then my congressman would have to intervene with a letter to stop the deportation. And we would have to renew the letter, every year, for the rest of our lives. And just because my current congressman might be willing to do an annual stay-of-deportation letter, does not mean that the next one will. So, we waited and waited. As our intellectually disabled son approached 18 years of age, we had a difficult decision to make because we need to petition the court for the request for Guardianship. We approached Paul and told him that we had made the decision to ask for a waiver for my wife’s situation because we needed to secure her status in the U.S. before submitting the petition for shared Guardianship of our intellectually disabled son. Paul Haar worked with us to build a compelling case for how damaging the deportation of my wife would be to me and our family. And how she is an outstanding community member. We gathered several affidavits attesting to my wife’s outstanding contributions to the community and how she has been an important part of the families that she has been providing nanny service to over the years. Paul’s approach to our case was ALL-IN. He held back on nothing. We left no stone unturned. He was, simply put, “Amazing.” I am happy to report that a decision came in our favor. The problems with her case have been reviewed and a waiver has been approved. She now has her Green Card and is on the path to Citizenship. After 18 and a half years of marriage and 17 and a half years since the birth of our son with Down syndrome. Did I mention that Paul Haar answers his phone? After passing interview with officer I received a NOID letter from USCIS. There were some mistakes made by another lawyer and my case almost got rejected. MR. After 12 Long years of dealing with our I-485 application, we received “Intent to Revoke I-140” Which made NO SENSE. We were referred to Paul Haar by a previous Satisfied Client who waited 25yrs. Paul and his Team addressed this issue and clarified the matter, received Approval Reaffirmation! Then ...USCIS MAILED us Decision Made, asking us to return our I-765/ I-131!
