Illegal stop and search

I cannot express how comfortable Mark made my son and I feel after initially speaking with him. We had searched and interviewed several attorneys regarding my son’s unique situation. All the attorneys we interviewed said we didn’t have a strong appeal case and should be thankful my son only received... 3.5 year sentence. We knew the case the Queens DA built against my son was based on lies and deception but no one would listen to us, until we finally contacted Mark Bederow. Mark not only listened but believed us and immediately pointed out everything wrong with the prosecution’s case. He gave us hope and validated our concerns. We didn’t hesitate to hire him. Mark is fully dedicated, extremely passionate and knowledgeable about the law and its process. Mark kept us informed of developments and explained in detail what was happening in the case, what to expect and his strategy. He will leave no leaf upturned and will make sure you understand the process. I am forever grateful for his commitment and his passion for the truth and justice.

Wrong Focus (In my opinion)

I came to him for help with a case I was arrested in June of this year. The case slow dragged and I was desperate for representation. Mark came on board and I disclosed the matters of the case where I informed him about some private matters about the arrest, he was informed about a reporter on the ca...se waiting until the case was Dismissed and Sealed First then the plan was to go forward to the media to disclose things. Once Mark “The Media Guy” came on board this case things shifted to the story of reporting thins to the media opposed to getting this criminal case dismissed and quite frankly I was disappointed and confused . We had multiple disagreements with this matter it led to me firing him officially 09/25 and I believe after that he purposely allowed the reporter to still report the case with knowingly false allegations against me to make the story big for his own publicity. The DA already agreed to open an investigation against the cop involved so I really saw no need to continue anything with the Media and just focus on the criminal matter to get this dismissed so I can move on. But you know some lawyers have their own intentions when they see a case they can benefit from publicity wise! Just beware of attorneys that focus more on the publicity rather than the matter at hand. I’m in a nightmare right now

Exceeded expectations on two matters!

I faced bogus criminal assault and harassment charges in Queens where the victim rightfully recanted. I contacted Mark from a referral while I was detained and he jumped into gear immediately and worked around the clock to get me released. Despite the recanted statement, the DAs office was still co...ming after me full force because of the unique facts involved (i.e. it was a domestic dispute). The DA pushed through several adjournments with an offer that would have left me with a criminal record. Mark held our position and went above and beyond to get the DA to ultimately dismiss my case. Mark handles major press cases and is a full-service attorney that is not only an expert in the courtroom, but also knows how to be an effective advocate outside of the courtroom. I have referred Mark to friends and colleagues and would recommend him to anyone facing even the most serious, complex charges.

Long on Talk, Short on Action

I found out that I was the target of an investigation by the DA's office and was freaked out. I had retained another attorney but after some time I felt I needed someone who was able to get more information from the DA's office, get my property that had been seized back and handle the matter better. ...I found Mark and was impressed with his proactive attitude on the phone and in person. He talked up his past in the Manhattan DA's office obviously since he spent a good time there and I thought that would be helpful so I retained him. He was willing to work with me initially with the finances - taking what I had and he said I could give him the rest when I got it. Well, almost immediately after I retained him he wanted to know when I would give him the rest. I also noticed that he could be very short on the phone which wasn't good for me since the stress of what I was going through was a lot already. Months went by and he did nothing; there were no meetings with the DA's office other than an email to state he was my new lawyer. Ultimately a year passed and he did nothing. Nothing. He finally wrote me that he felt there was no focus in the DA's office and that things would fizzle out. 3 weeks later I was arrested at 6 AM and arraigned. (I had been indicted by a secret grand jury.) That Mark knew nothing about any of this with his past and felt the matter was going to fizzle out told me he didn't have his pulse on what was going on in the DA's office which is exactly why I retained him. Meanwhile, he wasn't able to be there at my arraignment and because I needed to give him more money he wasn't on my case until weeks and weeks later when I could arrange for a friend to get him some money. Not once during that time did he come see me at Rikers Island where I remained. I was having trouble with the bail and couldn't get out. I was sick and had been moved to the Infirmary and I was terrified. When he finally came to see me his attitude was a completely different one than the one he had 3 weeks prior. In the end, he had a strategy that he wanted to pursue and I was interested but he didn't have any answers to the questions I asked about it.I guess he thought I should blindly follow along. I thought we would collaborate with regards to how to proceed. That was not the case. I didn't see him that often and frankly I was very disappointed with his representation. We finally parted ways and another attorney was able to get me probation. And even more recently, I needed his assistance with getting things back from the DA's office (he still had certain paperwork that wasn't passed on to the next attorney) and he hasn't been responsive. Bottom line: He wasn't the lawyer I thought he would be.

Saved me from losing my NYPD career and sitting in jail!

There are not enough words to express my gratitude and appreciation for this man and his continuous support and hard work to take care of my case. I was indicted by the prosecutor's office in a sealed grand jury which resulted in a true bill. I was facing numerous felony and misdemeanor charges th...at if convicted of would have sent me to jail and ended my career as a NYPD detectivee. Mark used his expertise and hard work to get my case completely dismissed before it made it to hearings or trial. He is just amazing and willing to work with and for you. He is incredibly patient with an affordable payment plan! I cant say it enough but thank you Mark for everything! God Bless.
