HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Straight-forward, knowledgeable, esteemed and highly effective.
After receiving my DWI (first offense), I was fearful and unsure. At times, I found myself overcome with anxiety and full of questions; Am I going to lose my job? If I lose my job, will this affect my career and my ability to get a job? Is this a criminal charge? I found myself in a situation th...at I knew nothing about. Anxious, embarrassed and ashamed...
Once I decided to take this matter head on, I did some research and found Mr. Peter Lederman as the stand-out DWI Lawyer in NJ. My first visit with Mr. Lederman was very informative. It was made abundantly clear that Mr. Lederman knew NJ DWI Law like the back of his hand, it is in fact, his only practice. I decided to hire Peter and walked out of his office feeling much better about the situation because i knew I had an extremely knowledgeable ally.
As it stood, I was looking at a seven month license suspension, plus installation of the ignition interlock device for 1 year after the suspension. This was not an easy pill to swallow seeing that my job requires customer visits.
After meeting with Mr. Lederman, he gave me a task list, things that he recommended I accomplish while the courts moved the process forward. The list of tasks included things such as; personal statement of events the night of arrest, self brag sheet, and attendance to a referred alcohol therapist and class. I complied with his recommendations because I was bent on doing everything in my power to affect the outcome of my case.
While completing these tasks, Mr. Lederman's Office had requested the "discovery" which is basically the municipalities case against the offender, including written statement by the arresting officer, any associated video, BAC etc. Once Mr. Lederman's office had received these documents, I was called in for an appointment with Mr. Lederman. It turned out that the State had a pretty bulletproof case against me. Mr Lederman told me how strong of a case we had and unfortunately there wasn't much on my side. He let me make the decision on how hard we wanted to fight the charges. He explained three approaches to me: High risk, high reward which essentially was going to trial and risking being proved guilty with the maximum penalty, medium risk medium reward, and low risk, low reward. After much thought I decided that I would take a reduced plea deal of three months vs the seven month alternative. Mr. Lederman did reiterate that getting this plea deal was going to be tough due to the strong case against me.
On my court date, the prosecutor told Mr. Lederman that they were not willing to budge on the 7 month suspension. I was devastated with the news and wouldn't accept it, so Mr. Lederman requested postponement.
Two weeks later we had a court date and Mr Lederman went in with a few more things to throw against the wall with the prosecutor. Something stuck and they lowered the consequence to three months which I considered a big win. I was able to keep my job and am now license-less but still employed.
The most impressive and inspiring thing about my time with Mr. Lederman was watching his interactions with court social circles. He is held in very high esteem by people within the court system. For instance, in my second court date, when the judge saw Mr. Lederman in open court, they bantered back and fourth like they were old buddies as the senior judge said he was honored to have Mr Lederman in his court. My case was then called up and the high ranking judge continued to make it known that Mr. Lederman was a great attorney and that Peter in fact taught the judge a few things. This is a top Judge who is president of a judges association we're talking about.
Here are some closing thoughts on my experience with Mr. Lederman.
