I was playing with my dogs in the front yard and a dog walker with her dog was on the apron of my property, as there are no sidewalks on my street. Her dog started barking at my dogs and she claimed that one of my dogs bit her dog. The woman and dog seemed fine and I offered to drive her home, but ...she said they were okay. That evening I received a call from the dog owner that her dog was in the hospital. The next morning, to my surprise, animal control knocked on my door to remove my dog from the premises and present me with a summons. I was able to demonstrate that the dog was not a threat to anyone and agreed to quarantine him for 14 days. I then called Mark Sherman Law office, who was recommended by a friend of mine who had a similar issue, for an understanding of my rights and what procedure to follow. After Meeting with Mr. Sherman, I was convinced he had my best interests at heart. He suggested that I pay for the dog's hospital bill and he explained what would be involved in getting a release and the case dismissed. Mr. Sherman was true to his word and all went smoothly. Mr. Sherman explained all of the ramifications of the case and the court procedure that would take place, and what my demeanor was to be. I live in one of the "W" towns in Fairfield and was involved in a domestic dispute where I was accused of something I didn't do. As you can imagine, I was horrified to be thrust into the legal system, especially because of a vengeful family member. I initially consulted another attorney who told me a...bout the concept of a nolle and told me that was the best resolution. He made it seem as if a nolle was the same as a dismissal, but fortunately I was able to research the difference. When I asked about a dismissal, he told me it was not possible. That's when I went to Mark. Mark knew exactly what to do in these types of situations (which are far more common than we would all think) and was able to secure a dismissal of the charge. Since the charge was false, the dismissal was the most appropriate resolution for this issue, and it's scary that I could have ended up with a nolle instead and not known the difference.
