My current situation is that I am poor and that I would most likely need to hire a lawyer based on contingency, but I heard most criminal defense lawyers don't want to do contingency. If I provide "obvious" evidence such as me being in a class at that time, would a lawyer want to work on contingency with me? It sounds like an easy case to win if I have solid evidence that I was in class at that time because the professor took role.

You would be eligible to apply for a public defender. That is what they are there for. I do not know of any state that allows an attorney to take on a criminal case on a contingency basis. It is unethical and a violation of the professional rules of conduct. Contingency fees are for when you sue an insurance company and expect a recovery. There is no financial recovery in a criminal case. The judge should have offered you the option of a public defender numerous times by now.

I see. Thanks. What if I can get the indecent exposure charge removed via evidence from my professor testifying that I was in class at that time without a lawyer? Then I get a separate lawyer suing for money settlement? That should be for contingency since like you said, I will be receiving (or at least expecting to receive) settlement money which is for financial recovery (for wrongful accusation), right?

Thanks. What type of lawyer would I need to get this settlement? Is this considered a civil lawsuit where I sue for a settlement?

Thanks but what is the type of lawyer I would need? Would the lawyer needed be called a "civil rights lawyer" or what?

Any lawyer dumb enough to believe that there will be a financial recovery under these circumstances will do.

Mr. Kaman is correct.
