Slow and non-responsive

When I hired Mr Gustad, he assured me that my case would be just as important as the next person's. Unfortunately, when I called his office, I was told that he was at a National Conference and he would get back to me when he returned. So far, he has not contacted me and the other person in the office... no longer works there. GREAT! Now, what? I have heard from his assistant, but the communication is slow, non-consistent and leads me to believe that my case ISN'T as important as he made it sound. I have a second attorney taking my case and they are quicker, more on the ball about information than Mr Gustad has even mentioned. I am not happy with the service he provides and I am on the verge of cancelling my agreement with him. I cannot wait for a while year to get my case heard!

As my client you have a right to be provided with good information in a timely manner. Your concerns about your case are my concerns and I hope you will call me right away and tell my staff that you are returning my email. At all times I try to communicate directly with my clients or to have information relayed by my staff when I am unavailable. If I had known you were expecting my call I surely would have called you as soon as possible. I look forward to hearing from you to discuss your case and correcting any communications that were inconsistent and to assure you how significant your case is. Sincerely, John-Paul Gustad (206)533-2222

Disappointed and more disappointed

I was on the fence about leaving a review for John Paul Gustad only because I am sure that at some point during his tenure as a social security attorney he probably was passionate about helping people. Unfortunately for my circumstance ,I felt like I was the only party concerned with my SS disability... care. I did not feel like this law firm provided adequate communication, ranging from failing to return calls, or followup on concerns and questions about processes. I had been awarded my disability after being denied the initial claim and refilling a second claim . At which time I had hired Gustad law firm to represent me. I was approved with the incorrect onset date for benefits so we appealed this which took over three years to get a hearing because of Covid and because JP wanted to give us the best case scenario with the hearing it took over 3 years to simply request that the onset date be corrected which came back as an unfavorable decision. A total of total of 8 years fighting the system roughly 5 with Gustad and I had spoke with this group on maybe a handful Of occasions just to inquire about the status of it. I see so many reviews on here speaking so highly of Gustad law group and I find it hard to believe this is the same attorney that had told me we had a good case. I already knew that I just thought I was hiring someone that would keep me informed and explain situations , pitfalls, or at the very least touch base every couple of months while we waited. In the end after receiving an unfavorable decision I attempted to contact Gustad by phone on multiple occasions to speak with him about appealing this and a week later I receive a letter from him dropping me as a client because he cannot see an effective strategy for representing me on appeal. But advises that even though he’s not competent to represent me that I might just be able to find another attorney more competent to represent me! I have never been more disappointed and frustrated than the time I have invested with this company! And he couldn’t even call me to answer the questions I had called him about prior to receiving his one paragraph letter quitting on me! Be prepared for salesmanship to come out in the beginning and then be prepared to do the work yourself and then prepare yourself to thank and praise him for everything he didn’t do for you in the end. I was brought up to always show an extreme amount of patience in situations but in this particular case I should have demanded more.

Website is misleading, person answering calls unhelpful

I got ahold of this law office and dealt with a woman who was unhelpful, wouldn’t offer any sort of consultation, and never mentioned Mr. Gustad at all. She basically blew off our questions and offered nothing in the way of even considering our social security case even though the website states the...y do exactly what we were inquiring about. It was very confusing. I thought we were going to get ahold of an attorney eager to be hired, but instead this lady was like dealing with an advanced aged grandmother who cannot figure out how to work a computer. Just be prepared for that if you call. Never did get to speak to anyone resembling an attorney about any legal matters at all.

Lazy

There by far the worst lawyer I’ve ever went to I never saw him in person. They never called me. There was no personalization. They didn’t even tell me when I was denied or when I had to do another claim they were the worst by far lawyer I do not recommend these guys to anybody.

Roy, Obviously, I disagree with your characterization and there are a number of falsehoods that I must address . Due to attorney-client privilege, I cannot comment on any particulars of your case, but I can certainly refute your false claims in order to defend my reputation. While it is true we never met in person, our representation coincided with the Covid-19 protocol and most every business was conducting work via telephone and Zoom during this time. Furthermore, you reside some 227 miles away from my office and you knew that when you hired me. You were not forced or duped into retaining a Seattle attorney, but rather, you sought me out. Your hearing was conducted over the telephone because the Office of Hearings Operations was not conducting ANY hearings in person due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Our database reflects that we had no less than thirteen (13) telephone calls with you and had to send you a "call me" letter on at least one occasion due to your failure to communicate. Additionally, Gustad Law Group regularly emailed updates to your spouse as this was your stated preference. Gustad Law Group advised you of every development in your case including our actions taken, as well as reasonable expectations for time lines, outcomes and resolutions. This only addresses our regular communications with you to say nothing of the extraordinary amount of time, effort and energy that my staff and I expended on your case. While I have a great number of additional refutations to your claims, I take quite seriously your privacy and would never divulge anything that would violate that. I wish you well going forward.
