I was referred to Mr. Carbone by reputable attorneys as someone who could help my incarcerated husband with a harassment issue he was experiencing. I called and emailed him multiple calls, but none was returned until the referring attorney put a call in on my behalf. After an informative & assuring c...onversation with Mr. Carbone I agreed to pay him $500 for two hours of his time; one to write a letter to the institution and another in anticipation of a necessary response. He wrote the letter, it was good and effective. Then he disappeared.
My husband mailed him time sensitive documents pertaining to the issue at hand requesting he mail them to recipient on his behalf. I emailed Mr. Carbone weekly for a month asking for confirmation he received the mail & resent it. I received no response. We were now against the time deadline for those documents to be received. I called & emailed Mr. Carbone daily, impressing the seriousness and urgency of the situation (something he should be well aware of as this is his area of expertise). After over a week of attempts to contact him, I reenlisted the referring attorney; again, Mr. Carbone was suddenly responsive. He casually affirmed that he had mailed everything & expressed shock that my husband hadn't received the copy Mr. Carbone mailed to him. As my husband had received another document from Mr. Carbone (the institution's response to the letter he actually did write initially), which was postmarked after he supposedly mailed the now missing documents, I have extreme doubts he ever did anything with the time sensitive materials.
Those materials were never received by the intended recipient or my husband. I hounded Mr. Carbone for months pleading with him to write to the recipient that he had in fact mailed the docs in a timely manner but they must have been lost -- nothing; no response. I have copious emails documenting my attempts to reach Mr. Carbone, complete with his non-response; it's truly disappointing and horribly disheartening.
In the midst of all this, I will allow that Mr. Carbone said he had a death in the family. With all sympathy, I don't understand how a professional does not change their voicemail message, have an auto response email, or do anything to let their clients know they wouldn't be working for an extended period of time. Upon his return, he continued the pattern of non-response and showed an utter disregard toward follow-through on simple actions.
I am saddened to have to write this review as I'd heard many good things about Mr. Carbone's work in the past, and it is especially difficult to find a good prisoners' rights attorney.
