Treated Disrespectfully and Uncaringly by Mr. O'Neill

After consultation, Mr. O'Neill agreed to take on my car accident case. He gave me instruction on what information he needed me to gather for him; police report, hospital and medical records etc. and I got busy doing just that. I called him back to explain that the hospital could not forward my rec...ords for a month to which he replied that it was fine. Just after I received the records and had compiled all the required information, I received an email from Mr. O'Neill's assistant that he was too busy and would no longer be helping me. I was devastated! I emailed and phoned him once, imploring him to please help me. If he was too busy at the time, i was willing to wait, but he still refused. i had only spoken to him a few times initially and the one other time regarding the wait for hospital records, so i wonder if it was not for some other reason than just being 'too busy' as I was willing to wait. I had spent much effort and money to gather all my information and records together ready to send to him. If Mr. O'Neill had indeed become too busy, then I feel it would have been respectful and more appropriate to refuse to represent the new cases rather than refuse my case that he had accepted a month prior. after my initial consult with Mr. O'Neill, i felt so hopeful and thought I had found a good, caring person to help me. Words cannot express the emotional devastation I felt when he 'dumped' me as it was during a very tragic and difficult time in my life. I feel Mr. O'Neill treated me disrespectfully and uncaringly.

Unfortunately this rating was by an anonymous "client" and as such it is difficult to respond specifically. Even if i knew who submitted the rating I ethically could not discuss his or her case in a public forum. In any event , I see many potential clients. I have been in practice for 38 years. I receive many referrals. There is no way i can represent everyone who contacts me. Many times it is necessary to review medical records, police reports, etc. to determine if i can represent someone. I don't believe this person ever signed a retainer agreement but they may have. I limit the number of clients i represent so I can do the best job possible for my clients. This means the cases i ultimately take involve very serious injuries. I know everyone feels their injuries are serious but i am necessarily required to weigh a sprain / strain case against a surgical case or wrongful death case or a case involving brain injury to a child. It is difficult declining clients who have legitimate claims. When i do i generally refer them to another attorney whom I respect. I understand this person's frustration and genuinely feel badly for him/ her because I was the attorney he/ she wanted to represent them. Unfortunately, with my caseload this was not possible.

Recommendation for Daniel O'Neill

Mr. O'Neill represented me with compassion, empathy, commitment and professionalism. The entire engagement was made comfortable and comprehensible by his thorough and timely communications. His experience and foresight compressed what otherwise could have been a lengthy and complex process into an ...easily navigated course of action that resulted in a positive outcome. I would not hesitate to recommend Mr. O'Neill and would certainly engage him again should the need arise. On a personal note, in addition to being an outstanding attorney, both Mr. O'Neill and his entire staff exhibited a genuinely caring and considerate attitude that made me feel both comfortable and fully supported throughout the course of our engagement.
