The most humiliating night of my life was when I got a DUI. I have never been more scared about my future than I was the night of my arrest and the following days. I old a professional license that was terrifed of losing. I called a friend of mine from church whose husband I knew was a well known jud...ge and asked them for a referral. The circumstances of my DUI arrest were not particularly damning or out of the ordinary. But my profession is such that a DUI would abruptly end my career. In my mind, I wanted the best lawyer possible, regardless of cost, because no retainer fee would compare to the potential amount of money lost du...e to me being fired from an occupation that I’ve devoted my life to. After careful research and a few other meetings with SD lawyers, I absolutely knew Mr. Casey was my most viable choice. I also solicited the help of a reputable DUI lawyer from my homestate- some 2000 miles away- for a recommendation and he came back with Casey’s name. Impressive. (In all fairness, a LA lawyer came just as highly recommendeda but I strongly discourage anyone from retaining a lawyer outside the city of arrest as the lawyer’s working relationship with the city attorney’s office could be the difference in your case). I must say I initially found Mr. Casey’s confidence in beating the charges a bit unfounded in only our first meeting, but I figured if your lawyer isn’t motivated, then you’ve lost before you even stepped onto the field. And I was dead wrong- his confidence is completely founded. Mr. Casey and co. fought tooth and nail for over a year to get the charge reduced to a reckless. The city attorney kept telling them “no” after “no” but he wasn’t deterred, even when I was. It was an emotional rollercoaster but his calm demeanor eased my worries after every talk. You might hear from other DUI arrestees that a lawyer is futile, as SD law guarantees a conviction, regardless of the evidence. Lord knows I heard that at every class at my DUI program. This is simply false. These testimonies show you there is hope; don’t let the system convince you otherwise. Mr. Casey’s firm saved my career and I am confident that no other SD lawyer could have accomplished what he did.
