Brilliant, cool, collected, bad-ass fireball of an attorney.
I hired Alexandra to help me with a child support modification that had I had attempted to do myself but that ended up backfiring on me, with a reduction in support due to the courts own mistakes and an unexpected request to the judge from my ex regarding my income, (which he granted). I needed help... filing for a motion for reconsideration and had only 4 days to file.
I first met with Alexandra for an initial consultation, (of which she did not charge me for), after meeting with two other lawyers. I almost didn't go to our first meeting because I was so exhausted and disappointed with the other attorneys whom hardly looked me in the eye and couldn't even repeat back to me what I was saying. Alexandra immediately looked through my court filings and found 2 mistakes that the court had made (number of children was imputed at 1, not 3 and the percentage of time with their non custodial father was imputed at 37%, when it was actually around 28-29%). We spoke about my third concern, which had to do with my non-taxable income as an apartment manager, and she gave me some sound advice. The whole time she was attentive, informative, and compassionate. I didn't hire her on the spot because I was still trying to pull together funds and budget for hiring an attorney. She told me as I was walking out the door that even if I did not use her services that I could call anytime if I had a legal question I needed help with. I hired her the next day.
With only a few days left to file (during a holiday season), she quickly, efficiently, and I should say, beautifully articulated a motion for reconsideration. So then began what we both thought would be a simple motion to correctly adjust child support for my 3 children. Court date was set, see you in 30 days, etc.
It took over a year to finally settle.
Although the two mistakes made by the court were easily recognized and corrected at our first hearing, the issue of my non-taxable income was stumping the already incompetent judge. Due only to the this judge’s laziness and inability to recognize those legal statues and the ex’s obstinate attitude about providing a modest increase for his 3 children, we had to go back to court 4 times even though we had provided all the laws and statutes concerning my income to the court. Alexandra not only stuck by me the whole time, but her compassionate ferocity for my case did not wane and actually grew stronger. So much so that at times, I felt that I was her only client. Her dedication to her clients comes across not only professionally, but with personal consideration for their very distressing situations.
Most importantly, Ms. Lavinsky's understanding of the law is astounding, not just in her ability to write the most astute and beautifully intelligent legal briefs, but her knowledge of the legal system is omnisciently at the tip of her tongue. I fully recognized this at one of our court dates/hearings. We were #21 on the docket, so we had to sit through quite a few hearings before us. As we’re sitting there with the judge fumbling through his post-it noted law books trying to figure out whatever legal statue he had to go by, I leaned over to ask her thoughts.
She explained everything before the judge even found the page he was looking for.
Although we ended up finally settling, (just to be over with the ridiculous year of continuances), I would not have been able to come close to what Alexandra achieved in my case AND she was even ready to re-file a new OSC for me.
This woman is a magnificent attorney, brilliant with her knowledge and compassion and will be a badass firecracker of a lawyer that will be dedicated to you and your case.
