My case was long ago, back in February of 2003 I was already on 2yrs probation for a misdemeanor and had about 2 months left on probation when I got arrested and charged with PCS 0-28g class A misdemeanor. The substance was 3 xanax. I chose to go with the court appointed lawyer and was offered 18 mon...ths, 1yr day for day in a state jail for the possession and 180 days 2 for 1 county time for violation of probation so I would have been incarcerated for 15 months. I refused to sign and they refused to budge on sentencing and were threatening with a trial if I didn't sign and I wasnt trying to fight the verdict, I was guilty plain and simple I just wasnt willing to do felony time for having 3 pills and the court attorney didn't care and wouldnt even try to reduce the time. The guy even told it was a good deal because they offered me 24months at first because that's what my probation time was. It was crazy, knowing that the time offered was complete BS and having no way to fight it. They were coming and getting me from Baker street jail every morning 5am to go to court so I had to go through all the holding cells, all the strip searches, the shackling, the yelling and being treated like garbage every single day and be stuck in the holding cell in court all day then go through it all to get back late usually missing out on breakfast and lunch. After 11 or 12 days of Harris County hell I fired the court appointed lawyer and called my dad and told him what was going on. The very next morning the DA came into the holding cell area and call my name as he was chuckling saying "man somebody really loves you, Dan Cogdell is here to represent you." I said ok what's that mean? He replied "Mr Cogdell is a high powered attorney very well known. He fights those cases you see in the news and you got him here on a misdemeanor lol boy somebody really loves you." As he walked out he said "whoever it was gave you 18months of your life back." About 30 min later was the first and last time I ever spoke with Dan Cogdell. I was incarcerated 14 days total, I signed the guilty plea and was sentenced to 9 days county time severed on the possession charge was released at 1201 am that very same night, my probation that I had violated didn't change I just had to finish the last 2months of it and when I went to see the probation officer, even she said "Dan Cogdell, huh may as well of had God standing next to you in court, dont screw it up you got one more month and one more visit before I release you." It cost me $1000 for Dan to come get my sentence reduced by 14 1/2 months. I havnt been arrested or charged with a crime since then, if I ever do again Dan is the only attorney I will ever call. I'm not one to write reviews, this will be my first, however, because of what has been done for my family by Dan Cogdell and his team, I feel compelled to let others know that without Dan, we would have easily been caught up in a justice system that is not always so just.
