After several years of sobriety, I slipped up. Bad. Picked up a PI, and did it while still on probation for a prior offense. You know the rest -- possible revocation loomed on the horizon. What I did obviously wasn't smart. A crisis date (the anniversary of the death of a loved one) had arrive...d, and, unlike prior years, I didn't use my tools to avoid drinking. Instead, I wound up in the company of an acquaintance who didn't know of my prior issues, and, before I could even think about it, I was deep into a bottle (or 2). Like I said, not smart. Just plain dumb. Fortunately, once I recovered my senses after a night in jail, I wised up, and I decided not to run from the problem or just hope that it would go away. I knew I had to face it head on, but I also knew I shouldn't try to face it alone. So I immediately started looking for a lawyer -- a well connected, highly qualified lawyer. He presented my circumstances in the best possible light, stressed my years of compliance with the terms of my probation, and within two (2) weeks had secured an agreement with the Court's probation department wherein I would not be referred for revocation proceedings.
