Being from the UK people presume that the Immigration process is easy and straightforward but it is not. Have been working on my daughter's Green Card for almost 9 years. But I will give you the shorten version. My husband and I have been married for almost 18 years now and we applied for his green... card in 1999. After many inquiries and a lot of money spent on 4 different attorneys’ in Illinois over the years, with still no decision made, it was very frustrating. During this time, my husband had gotten DUI’s on his record, but also went into recovery, so we thought all was good. We checked with the Chicago immigration office in March to inquire the status of our application and we were told that our “application was still pending”. A little over 2 months later, our house was surrounded by ICE agents who took my husband into custody for “overstaying his visa” and held him for deportation processing without bond in a Missouri jail for 31 days!
